i love the end of l-bolt, which has the solo and this cool swirly effect underneath (don't know if it is guitar or keyboards). It would be a nice place to linger and....fucking fade

Re: Lightning Bolt - October 15
Getaway is better on the second listen. First listen gets marred by expectation. Like it a fair bit. I was just expecting a bit more 'in the face'.
Lightning Bolt is lightning times better than the Wrigley (to me), save for the fade out, which I found less of an issue second time around (and third and fourth...I keep playing it..so that has to be good).
Let The Records Play - Not sure im getting it just yet. Like it. Its different for the guys. I get the same feel when I listen to 1/2 Full for some reason. Probably not going to love it.
Swallowed Whole. Is saved by a strong second half. Just when I found it, for lack of a better term, slightly boring, it picks up. That said, ends a little too anticlimactic. Like it though.
All in all, I feel like maybe Lightning Bolt is the closest to Backspacer of the bunch, and there's a bit of a turn with the rest. Not a left turn by any stretch, but some really interesting things happening in the songs that keep me engaged, if that makes any sense. As in..Getaway, I really like a fair bit of what is going on around Ed's vocals. While I don't love LTRP, I was immersed in the music a fair bit.
I especially can't wait for the rest, because listening to the initial reviews from the listening parties, I had about the impression I got reading their reviews as I did actually hearing these songs and hope for the same with the rest (for most part)

This one is probably hurt the most by the lower quality.stip wrote:i love the end of l-bolt, which has the solo and this cool swirly effect underneath (don't know if it is guitar or keyboards). It would be a nice place to linger and....fucking fade
The guitars are really fun in this one.

Re: Lightning Bolt - October 15
I really like the verses on let the records play they've got swagger, do not dig the chorus currently. It's got that uplifting thing going on that i hate so much :lol:It's like they ruined a good song by injecting it with backspacer. HOWEVER i think it'll make sense with the lyrics, i think. The music under the chorus isn't as cool either.
So far Getaway is winning.

Judging by the live version, it's definitely from The Who bucket of composite parts; but then so are plenty of PJ songs. I always thought The Who were kind of shit anyway.McParadigm wrote:Give the new relationship fog a chance to dissipate. Lightning Bolt is 100% a solo Pete Townshend track.

totally possible. also possible that dismissing a song 5 minutes after you hear it the first time may be a bit premature.McParadigm wrote:Give the new relationship fog a chance to dissipate. Mind your manners is definitely 1
L-bolt is 2 but could very easily overtake MYM
not sure how I'd rank the other 3
Future Days remains at the bottom

Nope. Definitely Pete solo. Has a lot more of that "aging artist in the 1980's" uberclean production.harmless wrote:Judging by the live version, it's definitely from The Who bucket of composite parts
Mostly, these songs just sound to me like the very definition of "we got old and lost our mojo, but still kind of know how to sound like us" rock band.
In spite of myself, I was hoping to be surprised. Just another brick in the wall.

the bridge of swallowed whole may be a bit too touchy feely. the song picks up nicely after that, though

I am pleased to hear a general "i can fap this" view of the leaked songs. Hopefully the whole record will live up to it.
