I'd be scared to try that. The competitive side of me would run me into the ground and try to force me above my ability. If I had less of an ego it would probably be helpful though.
I can see that. I'm not super competitive. I know my strengths and weaknesses.

I get my ass handed to me on the road, but do alright on the trails or something with lots of elevation gain.

13 miles at the park tonight. Just finished around a half hour ago. Finished in two hours. I'm fairly sore but nothing crazy. Definitely pushed it a little more than planned this week, hope that doesn't lead to a knock. Tomorrow is rest. Any advice on recovery/stretching? I have a soccer game Sunday that will serve as a good tempo day.

Also have no idea how I am expected to double that distance by September....just saying.

Like, what do I do out there to replenish energy? I know several ways to access water but it's almost a must to consume energy right. Probably around 17 miles or so?

I'm a fan of handheld water bottles. I typically only drink or eat after 13 miles. This is the one I like: https://smile.amazon.com/Nathan-SpeedDr ... ter+bottle

My stomach has turned finicky in the last few years, so I switched to Tailwind from gels. It's kind of an all-in-one drink solution. It's all I consumed in my last two trail 50Ks. https://smile.amazon.com/Tailwind-Nutri ... +nutrition

I generally do some kind of loop on long runs, so I'll stash my bottle at the beginning of the first loop then pick it up later in the run.

Thanks friend. This park is going to be my home base for long runs and there is water everywhere. I'm going to try those gels once I start really going long (for me anyway).

That water bottle is exactly what I use. I even carried it during my last marathon. It was nice to not think about water stations or get soaked trying to drink out of a cup. Verb, I also have a camelback backpack I've used twice. It works well, but I've developed sensitive nips over time, so it's out of the question. If you want it, I'll send it to you. It's like new.

I can't remember which gel brand I use, but I go with the vanilla because it's super runny. It's like having a shot of creamer. It's not pleasant, but no masticating is necessary.

On the personal running front, I haven't gone out since Monday. Planned to start back up today, but it's currently storming like mad.

I got sick after my run Monday. Last night I did a quick 1.9km after working out just cuz I wanted to sweat. 8.57s.

I was only able to get in 6 miles this morning. I slept like shit last night. Upset stomach and humidity kept me up. Probably had too much caffeine, too. Heat and humidity today plus only three hours of sleep plus no food before the run took an unexpected toll. I kept a 9:20 pace which isn't terrible for me but not great either. Anyway. I still haven't eaten. I'm fucking starving. I've literally had water and a giant iced coffee today and that's it. I might die.

Don't die durden. The humidity is brutal here this weekend too. My knees felt good after a day off and it was to the sports complex for some soccer this afternoon. One thing about all this distance running while holding a pace is it doesn't do that much good on the pitch. I was able to score a decent goal but tracking back on defense wore me out fast. Overall it was a strong week for me after feeling sick again Monday. I've started taking an allergy pill daily and so far so good with that.

Did something to my left foot over the weekend. The left side between my heel and arch is super sore. Not sure when or how it happened, so maybe just a fatigue thing.

Thought not running Tues-Sat last week would be enough. Seems I'll just need to wear a sleeve from here on out.

Started cross country summer practice Monday morning. Always get less miles than I hope because of the new kids.

Ran 2 miles threshold x 3 this morning before cc practice. 1st 3 miles really good (below 7), 2nd 2 not bad (below mp), last mile disastrous (wrong side of 8). An hour later ran a slow 4 mile hilly route with the kids. So 29 miles so far this week after 21 last week.

Eff this humidity, though.

Fell on my trail run on Sunday. Fell 3 times during my last trail 50K.

At 44, I'm as fast as I've ever been, but my coordination has gone to shit.

Went to the optometrist yesterday, hoping I could blame my vision, but still have 20/15 vision in both eyes.

So I guess I'm just old and awkward.

Yikes. Be careful, man. I'm lucky that I've only fallen twice in the 5 years that I've been a runner. Both hurt like hell.
