Kylo is no noob. He is 29 in TFA. He was trained by Luke for years, but eventually destroyed the Jedi temple Luke had built, slaughtering the other Jedi there. He was then trained by Snoke.

Thank you.

Actually I've been a Star Wars fan for 30 years. I also read a lot of fantasy and sci-fi. What do you suggest I read?

Anders I was being a dick there and I was wrong and I'm sorry.

Okay, maybe, but do we really know how long he was trained by Luke for? And do we really know that he single-handedly brought down whatever Luke was trying to rebuild with the Jedi? I don't remember anything in TFA, besides a few lines from Han, detailing what happened. Regardless, he was clearly fucking with Rey until she had a huge surge of force powers awaken inside her that he was not expecting. People fuck up all the time when doing things they're very proficient at because of their presumptuous attitude. Also, Luke was no where near Vader's power level when he defeated him in RotJ.

No worries. I didn't even think about it.

The book is also canon. You can read more details about Kylo, his training and what happened to the temple here:
http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Kylo_Ren

He was bleeding and injured, the planet was falling apart around them, strange then that he would take so long in playing with her. I rather think he really tried, but couldn't defeat her.

Luke and Vader is different. 3-4 years has passed since A New Hope. Luke has learnt from both Kenobi and Yoda, two great masters. Luke plays on being the son of Vader, bringing out the good in his father. Vader was badly injured and burnt at an earlier age. In the end it is still only Vader that has the power to kill the emperor.

And that moment Vader killing the Emperor is the same presumptuous attitude Leatherhead mentioned. It doesn't cross the emperors mind that Vader would turn on him in that moment.

He did probably fear Luke if he and Vader were to team up against him to take over. That's how he'd see it. Viewing it through his own obsession with power they too must be obsessed.
It doesn't really matter if Luke is more powerful than Vader in the end though does it?

Which is ironic because the emporer blindsided an unsuspecting Darth Plagueis, didn't he?

It's no longer canon but Palpatine kills Plageuis yeah.

It's not canon? Why, because Plagueis was all into mitichlorians?

No. cos lucasfilm story group decided it is not canon.

Didn't they talk about that in RotS in the theatre? The movies are canon.

Yep. And Luceno (I think) extrapolated the book out of that scene. But it was deemed not canon when they changed it all. Plageuis is one of the most popular characters in the fandom so I can see him being reintroduced at some stage. As with Thrawn.

Right, the book isn't canon anymore. But everything Palpatine says in Revenge of the Sith is still canon. So, we do know that Palpatine killed Plageuis in his sleep. That is canon.

Im sure once we learn more about Rey we will understand why she was able to do what she did in TFA. We will also probably understand why Ren wasn't able to destroy her. I also feel like he gave her a look of recognition as well during the fight scene. Like, once her "force awakened" there was a moment of "Wait, this feels familiar"

Could be. But JJ did confirm in the commentary that Ren and Rey did not meet before the events shown in TFA. So, if she's familiar to him, it's only as a Force feeling and/or rumor/myth that he's heard about.

Also, Snoke did say for Ren to bring in rey, right?

Maybe that was before the fight. Alas, obviously Snoke wanted Rey on the dark side so killing her would defeat that purpose.

Yeah, I never got the impression that Ren had ever had any desire or intention of killing Rey.
