this movie is many things, but it's not clunky. it breezes from one sequence to another.

That's not a positive. Makes it lightweight and short in depth.

You could say the same about R1, but not really. R1 still takes more time to build the background, and for a smaller story, not one that is supposed to take the saga furter.

Really baffled by people comparing them.

It is just cos it's the new movie I guess.

that something moves fast doesnt make it lightweight, just like something moving slowly doesnt make it drag. its all in the execution. despite its pace tfa gives its characters real depth and the set pieces are all exciting (and usually serve as backdrops for character development)

its only been one viewing so i want to reserve the right to change my mind, but the first half of R1 felt like it was treading water. ostensibly world building i suppose, but none of it felt necessary. that movie shined in its battles and dragged outside of them. and almost none of that material added to the incredible third act.

It does get better Stip on second viewing but it still drags up to that third act. The scene with Jyn and the hologram of her dad really lands in the second viewing but weirdly his death scene doesn't at all. Feels forced and unnecessary.

jyn's reaction to the hologram landed the first time. it was a powerful moment

as opposed to a movie that exists to retcon a design flaw in a new hope?

the point being that none of these movies are winning awards for innovative plotting, and thats totally fone. they are great at other things

There's some Vader v Aliens art out there. That'd be a cool crossover.


No way would Smaug beat Vader. Vaders pulled starships out of the sky in the comic.
