I think we can comfortably say that the next number to go up there will be 34. After that? I can't think of who will be next. I assume it won't be Clemens or Manny, considering their reputations, and after Boggs I think the '80s and '90s are done. Does anyone else deserve a second look?

I put Clemens and Boggs on the same level in terms of both talent and stature. So it's weird to see you on board for one but not the other.

There's just something about Boggs that was, for lack of a better word, meh.

Nobody likes Boggs, no one cared when he left, and no one has been like "gee where's Wade Boggs?" since he retired.

This isnt the HOF, its not an award, and it shouldnt be something solely decided by Wins Above Replacement or OPS. It's totally subjective, I didnt like Boggs and I wasnt alone. If he was such a slam dunk it would have happened 10 years ago.

I dig numbers' passion about this. As a general baseball fan I always thought Boggs was borderline all-time great. But as numbers is a Red Sox fan I get his doubts.

Wade Boggs is one of the best third basemen to ever play baseball, and has hit the ball more in Fenway Park than anyone ever has, including Ted Williams.

And yet, his career is largely forgotten.

I'm not even saying he wasn't a great player, but the Red Sox should only retire the numbers of players who were iconic figures, which Boggs never was.

Well maybe this will get people to wise up.
