I think this song is pretty good, but just not that interesting. I just hope that doesn't preclude anything like "Of The Earth" from being on the record.
I agree with this, a lot. Space. Yes. I don't want every song to sound the same, but I do want a sense of space in just about every damn one. I'm certainly not getting enough of it these years.
please tell me you guys weren't expecting this song to sound like that.
I wasn't expecting it, no; but I was hoping!

Naysayers...this is gold! Sure one man's STBC is another man's Nothing as it Seems. For me? It rocks. Plain and simple. The vocals sound good. The band sounds good. Mike gets to wail. This is why I like Pearl Jam -They surprised me. Didn't expect a song like this as the first single.

Put the rest of your reviews away. This song rocks.

The solo is where this song really loses me. Everything up until that point is okay and could grow on me, but the solo underwhelms.

I'm gonna take a stab at the lyrics.

The end is definitely

Good Heavens/That’s Right/How Do You Like Your/Living Hell

which is not great on its own but sounds really good with the ole breakups in the delivery. And the bridge/second chorus sounds like it is well written based on what I could make out.

i like the solo (reminds me of what he was doing on Riot Act), but it does kinda seem like all his repressed soloing that was stifled on riot act got crammed into this.

this is one of the few (if not only) rockers of the past couple of albums where the music perfectly matches and reins in Ed's modern vocal raspy delivery. Dig it.

Ed definitely sounds like he's going after a Dead Kennedys feel in his vocal.

Who knows where I'll feel about it soon...I'd agree that it is a better first impression than The Fixer, but it's not really doing much for me. :?

I liked the solo...it was still Mike's same style but seemed a bit removed from the standard pentatonic stuff.

There's a few parts I can't make out for the life of me...

I got an unfortunate feeling I've been beaten down
I feel life don't believe and the truth is coming out
What they take is more than about
they're taking your innocence and they're going bout burnin valhalla

I'm just saying
Mind your manners

I caught myself believin' that I needed god
and if it's heart and soul we sure could use it now

Try my patience, my patience tried
this world's alone and that makes me wanna cry

I'm just saying
Mind your manners
so I'm saying

Self-realized and metaphsically redeeming, not live another life, not solve our mystery
right around the corner could be bigger than ourself, we could will it to the sky, or we could something else

You're no longer saying
Mind your manners
Always praying

Self-realized and metaphsically redeeming, not live another life, not solve our mystery
right around the corner could be bigger than ourself, we could will it to the sky, or we could something else

Go to heaven, that's swell!
How do you like it, living hell!

No. A vocal minority of the usual Red Mosquito Board dorks might not like it but I think overall it's being well received.
