They didn't want Stone to be sad. It's his only song.

I wish Sirens and Lightning Bolt would be at another place on the record. It would feel so much more cohesive to me if Infallible would follow MFS. What we have feels like they're starting the album with three songs, then shift to a double single with Sirens and Lightning Bolt and then go back to the album with Infallible. I like both Sirens and Lightning Bolt but it's like eating a really delicious steak and then someone shoves icecream in your face in the middle of it. Real sugary ice cream. With sprinkles on top.

Agreed. The frustrating thing is that it's so obvious how one could retrack it.
How would you do it? I have no idea where to put Sirens.

For me it is. I never really got all of the love for Lowlight. One of the weakest tracks on Yield.

Who's put together the ideal re-tracking?
Two or three people on RM have suggested at least one "swap" each that I've agreed with.

I think Sirens should probably have been swapped with LTRP.

All of which doesn't put me off the movie, and I might even try another chocolate raisin, just to make sure I don't hate it, because most of the stuff is nice. And even if I find I still don't like the chocolate raisins, I'll still find it fun to throw them at the couple kissing in the next row. The album will go where I wanted in the rankings.

Canon: Ten-Riot Act

Good latter-day PJ: Lightning Bolt

OK latter-day PJ: S/T and Backspacer

After a few more listens now and a clearer head this morning, I have to jump on the bandwagon that Future Days really is a dud, but probably the only one on this album. I really can't describe it any better than what's already been said a thousand times, the production is sickeningly overdone. I don't want to call it a bad song, but IMO it seems more out of place here than SBM. Agree that Yellow Moon is the perfect closer (it's a strong runner for my fav track so far).

LTRP is okay, I take it for what it is, a fun song and will probably be pretty enjoyable live. SBM was a big (pleasant) surprise the way it turned out, but it is still out of place (not as bad as FD though). I find that I can repeat listens of SBM, I don't think I've listened to FD in it's entirety more than 2 times now. Bottomline, SBM (while enjoyable) and the dud that is FD should have been bsides. I'm fine with leaving LTRP on the record.

Aside from those fucking fade outs (the title track got severely fucked here), these are really my only criticisms of the album. I have to say I'm enjoying the shit out of it right now. But for the life of me I can't figure out how Of The Earth still doesn't make the album cut when songs like LTRP, SBM, and FD are included. Of The Earth (given the theme), to me at least, definitely had a place on this album god dammit!

Okay that seemed like a pretty negative post, but I assure, I'm in the pro-Lightning Bolt camp. There are some real gems here that I think will age incredibly well and will flourish even more so live.

This is pretty spot on, except I would add that some jackass threw a couple of rabbit turds into the bag (LTRP and FD)

Honestly i have a hard time even making it thru Future Days....and this from a guy who typically loves these types of songs from the band (Thumbing My Way, The End, etc).

Should have just ended it with Yellow Moon.

So all we get out of you after 3 months and 10 billion pages is that you kinda don't mind chocolate raisins???

I agree. FD is the only dud for me. I don't give a shit what anyone else says, LTRP and SBM are worthy and way better than FD.

Yellow Moon is the last track. Just lop off FD.

I give this post a 2.7 out of 5

I think that other thread should now be renamed: And, on October 7th, Harmless rested.
