She does seem like an odd choice. Maybe they're doing an origin story?

She's more like the new games Lara.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. That's a good thing, I'd say.

Wasn't the first of the new games an origin story? (I didn't play it.)

Yes. Both were excellent.

Thanks to trag, I just learned that Almodovar has a new film dropping in Spain next week! Should be here in the US by August. SUPER excited for it. This guy just continues to blow me away.

I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

Oh yes. Well... yes and no. More often than not, yes. There's a lot of "mother issue" stuff in all of his work. Also, it helps to pay attention to spirals and/or circles, and the color red in his films.

His dramas all feature similar motifs. And his "mysteries" all feature similar motifs. And his comedies feature similar motifs. But those motifs don't always travel across those inner genres. But he's very like Shakespeare in the way that his sub-genres are linked and similar but also stand out by themselves. He circles a lot of the same motifs/styles/themes but all of his films are staggeringly original.

I mean, I've only seen one trailer. But aside from the terrible acting and the abysmal writing (though, to be fair, it is only a trailer) have we talked about how the fucking thing is called Blood Father?
Bringing this over from the other thread. Seriously, joey? You thought the trailer was that bad? Made me want to see it.

What a voice that guy has. Like 1000 years of life experience dragged over the coals and forced to read to his children before they're sent off to war.

The acting and writing are like the main reasons that trailer sells me. Weird.

"Missing link tattoo."

"Dad... you're fucked up daughter."

"Want tattoo." "Don't you fucking turn your back on me boy!"

I don't know. It looks pretty, I guess. There are some nice images. But it just looks like a bad version of something we've all seen already a hundred thousand times. And Mel's wheels fell off a long time ago. This just feels/looks cheap and desperate and recycled to the point that it's fraying. Also, the fucking thing is called Blood Father.

But what do I know?

Just stifled and obvious and hammy and cringy. I don't know. It's just a trailer. The movie might be fantastic. But it's a terrible trailer.
