This is a team loaded with players exactly like erikkson, seguin was a scorer, the thing they lack. Now that they have lost out on alfredsson I don't see how anyone can view this offseason as anything other than a disaster for the bruins so far.

Prior to this shortened season, Eriksson scored 26, 27, 29 and 36 while being one of the best defensive forwards in the NHL. If you think Boston is loaded with players like that, you're vastly underrating Eriksson. He's like a higher-scoring winger version of Patrice Bergeron.

As long as Boston can get Rask under a 3-5 yr deal then it's been a good if not great off season. Seguin was a square peg in a round hole as a Bruin. He didn't fit their style play and there wasn't place for him to play his natural position. PC has a pretty good record of properly deciding if a player is a build the team around kind of player. He made the correct decision on Thornton and Kessell. I trust he made the same for Seguin as Sequin was going to be paid build your team around type money.

Boston still probably has the best depth at center of any team in the league. They're losing Horton but gaining Erickson, and they're losing a what was for them a third line winger with loads of potential in order to help keep Bergeron and Rask. They dumped Peverley to make room for Soderberg and picked up two good young prospects. They drop Ference and make room for more playing time for Krug and Hamilton. PC is playing chess where some GMs are playing checkers.

The Bruins are a really good team right now, and they just added a 27-year-old Selke contending winger coming off a bunch of 70-point seasons and a good prospect. It's not like they only got cap relief. There's a good chance that this trade makes the team better for this coming season.

I'd also argue that in terms of the long term health of the franchise, Hamilton's development was and is much more important than Seguin's

I think a lot of the big signings are more about trying to excite your fan base than this is the move that will put us over the top. Fans tend to get a lot more excited over the signing of a free agent than the re-signing of their own player who's a UFA. The three biggest things a team can do to ensure success do not excite fans much; draft well (spend money on scouts), player development (spend on your farm team and coaching), sign the right coaching staff. None of these really excite fans. Overpay Clarkson, Filpula or Horton and fans will act like they've just won the cup.

for that money, why didn't the Bs keep khudobin?

Iggy winning a cup w/ the Bs next season would be a fun story-line.

details on the Iggy deal: $1.8 M base salary, $3.7 M games played bonus, $500,000 goal scoring/team playoff performance: total $6 M

Also, the way I understand it, for players over 35 who's $ causes their team to exceed the cap, the team can pay the overage against the cap in the following season. so were Iggy to meet all his bonuses the team might face a "penalty" the next season (but likely willingly depending on how the season ended).

So basically, Horton doesnt want to play somewhere where hockey matters. Anyone else lost some respect for him?

I guess I'm happy that they got Iginla, but I still think the Seguin trade was absolutely retarded.
