I hear it more in the first song than Santa Monica, which sounds nothing like the Hold Steady to me. Anyway, the correct response is that they sound like Bruce Springsteen. I was big into them for a while but nowadays I don't often find myself going back to them.

Me too. I was way into The Hold Steady for a while but have kind of soured on them. Still enjoy the records I liked back then, just can't get into the new stuff. I like that so many of their songs are still literally just reminiscing about hardcore though.

I this performance of this song. Just love everything about it. (This is from 2010 and thus should not be problematic for the current aughts tournament.
