I really hope not. This is supposed to be basically bud up to the events of a new hope. The han solo spinoff is a younger han solo so it wouldnt make sense/it would be dumb

The thing is, they haven't said yet what version of the Death Star these rebels are stealing the plans for. If it is the 1st version, it could take place a little earlier in that timeline.

Shoehorning Han into this doesn't seem like it would make sense chronologically. But I wouldn't put it past Disney.

That is the rumor but I cannot confirm.
How "young" could he be? The Han we all know was arriving at Tatooine at the same time that this movie was ending.

This timeline has not been confirmed, though, has it? Just that it takes place sometime between III and IV. There were 3 (I think) versions of the Death Star. So if these rebels are stealing the plans to to first Death Star, it would be taking place a lot earlier than the Tatooine scene.

I don't know. I'm getting my Star Wars storylines mixed up, apparently. Carry on.

I read something a few months ago that reported that this one ends right where the opening shot of the original movie starts.
So, if that holds true, Han should be a day or so younger.

Are we not confident that this leads up to 10 minutes prior to ANH?

considering all of this has been debunked:
ccording to The Hollywood Reporter, "the goal of the reshoots will be to lighten the mood" as right now Rogue One has the "feel of a war movie". The source continued to revealed that the film "takes place just before A New Hope and leads up to the 10 minutes before that classic film begins. You have to match the tone!”

Well shit, how long before ANH could this possibly be? They steal the plans. Then what? Wait around to see if it really works?
I guess they could "lay low for a while" or it might take the Empire some time to find them, but he timeframe has to be pretty close.

There's talk that this won't have the opening crawl dialogue at the beginning

Somewhere in canon it's told that 3 Death Stars were built one after another. The first blew up at weapons test the second the rebels found the flaw and exploited and the third unfinished destroyed by the forest moon.
Explains why the ROTJ was almost finished so quickly.

I hope so. I do think this movie is a great opportunity for Disney/Lucasfilm to test whether or not the franchise has legs other than the main trilogies storyline. I think they've kinda hedged their bets somewhat since the next 2 standalone films are origin stories for fan-favorite characters in Han Solo and Boba Fett. Depending on how this one turns out will probably have a lot to do with whether or not similar type movies get made or they just keep doing backstory movies in the future.
I did find myself wondering this morning about what's going to happen when this new trilogy ends. Will the story carry on with Rey, Finn, et al, or will a new stroyline begin a new set of trilogies?

I want an hour and a half long, no dialogue, gritty, Stormtrooper attack on a village. That's it. That's the whole movie. Great sound design. Great cinematography. Great score. Just a tiny, small, gritty and brave, war movie about Stormtroopers invading by sea, storming the beach, and laying waste to an innocent village. And, again, no fucking dialogue. Maybe some crying.
But that's fucking it.
