Back on the old board we had a thread considering whether the word "terrorist" should even be used at all for any action. The debate that ensued in the past four pages or so is making me more convinced that that argument is onto something.

Now that the facts are starting to come to light, more news sources will start calling it "domestic terrorism." Mike Huckabee even called it that on "State of the Union" this morning.

That's probably true, but since it is the go to piece of vocabulary to describe politically motivated violence against civilians we ar stuck with it, and its usage does have implications for the way important political battles are portrayed.Green Habit wrote:Back on the old board we had a thread considering whether the word "terrorist" should even be used at all for any action. An act of a single insane madman
A hate crime
A gun control issue
Domestic terrorism
Each of these framings will evoke a different response in terms of how serious a problem is, what sort of response is appropriate, who it impacts, who it implicates, who the sphere of potential victims are, etc.

Re: The War on Terror /Central Asia/Mid East/Africa thread
DENVER (AP) - A Republican state lawmaker in the Denver suburbs says that Planned Parenthood is "the real culprit" for violence.
The remark came Monday in a Facebook posting by Rep. JoAnn Windholz.
The lawmaker says that "violence is never the answer, but we must start pointing out who is the real culprit."
Windholz says that Planned Parenthood is the "true instigator of this violence" because it provides abortions.
Windholz concluded that "violence begets violence."
The lawmaker confirmed to The Associated Press that the posting is accurate but says she has nothing more to say about it.
Three people were killed Friday when a gunman opened fire at a Planned Parenthood clinic in Colorado Springs. The clinic is not in Windholz's district.

I honestly think its due to the high transient nature of this State. Everybody comes to Colorado by running away from something in their lives. The mix of cultures from city to complete rural, hippie to redneck, the drugs, the partying, the lack of support systems. Its crazy.

PHX is the same way. There's no sense of community here, it's just a mass of people with no real interest in expanding their little "bubbles".Strat wrote:I need to open up more yoga studies. We should rename this thread the world war 3 thread.
The Brits have just voted to bomb Syria.
They're at the root of every worldwide conflict almost all of them. Now they think bombing towns full of innocent people is gonna shut IS down.
They're asking for it.

I'm confused. I thought the Jews and the Americans were responsible for all the world's ills. Which is it?dimejinky99 wrote:We should rename this thread the world war 3 thread.

The Brits are asking for it? Are they asking for it as the denizens of Raqaa are?

It's hardly as though things are great for the average Syrian right now. Civilians are dying in droves and have been for years, irrespective of Western actions.dimejinky99 wrote:Now they think bombing towns full of innocent people is gonna shut IS down.
