In the Raiders defense, they have one of the better track records when it comes to hiring minority coaches.

In the defense of reason, the Raiders knew exactly who they wanted and why they want him. Hell, there are probably 20 teams that would trade their coach for Gruden if given the chance. In situations like this, the Rooney rule is silly and meaningless. And making a minority coach interview for a job that he has zero chance at getting seems patronizing and demeaning in itself.

And why would anyone else (not just minority coaches) want to interview for a job that is already publicly known to be going to someone else? The hardest game to pick this weekend is Falcons/Rams. I don't think anyone would be surprised to see Atlanta win a 27-23 type game but I don't think anyone would be surprised to see the Rams win a 31-13 type game either.

I hear the dome team stuff all the time, but this isn't a dome team really in the classic sense or at least they don't play like it, and neither do the Saints for that matter. They're probably better on the road than they have been at home. There are a lot of things with them that simply don't make sense this year.

You probably hear that "dome team stuff" all the time because it's certainly had an effect on teams in the playoffs. I crunched some numbers (and since I did it, don't expect it to be perfect, but I think my calculations were pretty good), and since 1998 home dome teams win their playoff games at a 66% clip (i.e., road teams only win 34% of the time). But dome teams win 76% of their home games and only win 28% of their road or neutral-site games played outdoors. This could probably be controlled even more for cold weather / inclement weather, but I still think it's telling. (of course, if you like the Falcons' chances, by all means take them; Fivethirtyeight gave trump a 25% chance to win, and look how that turned out!)

What's the forecast in LA? Haven't looked into it. I think the Falcons have had the far more difficult path to this point. I do think they are the better team. But it's hard to argue with the data.

BUF (+8.5) - JAX's defense is what makes me think they win outright, but I don't think they're putting up massive points in January, either.
CAR (+6.5) - Even if NO jumps out to a big lead, I bet Cam leads CAR to some garbage time points in time to cover. Or it's really close the whole way. Regardless, I think it ends close.

Your calculations are good, I just think there has been more to do with dome team construction in the past vs now. Home teams usually win playoff games because they’re usually the better teams anyway. What I meant was that the Saints and Falcons are more run and defense oriented now than they have been.

If the Rams win it will probably be because Mcvay calls a better game than Quinn. The Falcons have been a mistake prone mess all year.
