I just think Mahershala Ali's performance is staggering and brilliant. And it hurts that anyone would suggest "affirmative action" was in play in any capacity. Just bums me out. Even as a joke, it bums me out. That's all. He's so fucking good.
He was good. I was just confused due to how little screen time he had. Which is a testament to how good it was because i wanted more of him.
I just thought that maybe there was a screen time limit to be nominated for an award. I was just confused and not totally sold even though i loved his performance.

I getcha. No worries, buddy. There is no screen time limit or anything like that. On the flip side, most people thought Viola Davis should have been nominated in the Lead Actress category. Mostly its up to the studios who gets nominated where. If they think Viola has a better shot at winning in the Supporting category, they only make her "available" for the category. It's kinda dumb really. The Academy should make those decisions, no the studios/agents/performers. But what are you gonna do?

She's always so fucking good. But I'll tell you, I actually think her first scene was far superior to the one they always show in clips. She's outstanding through and through. But the way she's just able to exist on screen is marvelous. I love her in quiet moments.

I loved Get Out and I hope Jordan Peele follows through on making more movies. I wouldn't have a problem with the lead guy getting some best actor nods too, he gives a great performance.

I need to hear some opinions about The Grand Budapest Hotel. Because the movie started to be a complete mish-mash of "spot the cameo!" which is what Wes Anderson movies are mostly anyway but then the story started to rise above that and it was all the better for it. In the end I think I liked it, but I don't think I could watch it again because of the weird start.
Excellent performance by Ralph Fiennes though. Heads and shoulders above the rest.

After sleeping on it I did not appreciate the ratio changes. I mean, it was almost never in 16x9 so why bother?
Started watching The Mating Habits of the Earthbound Human, haven't watched it since 2000. Before watching, I remembered it as a funny little farce about relationships with background action that was Arrested Development before Arrested Development. While watching? Well, it's funny but it's 1999 funny so lots of bad jokes like, "That female would be better suited as a father." wtf.
Hyde Pierce, acting out the role of an alien (credited as "infinity-cubed" in the opening credits), narrates a courtship in a late 20th-Century American city, presenting findings and opinions as an extraterrestrial nature documentary. The relationship "footage" is played straight, while the voice-over (with its most often wildly inaccurate theories) and elaborate visual metaphors add comedy. Among other themes the film explores the possibility that, whenever describing their interpretations of other species' acts and feelings, humans may get everything wrong.
