Got a work project that'll see me record some VR footage at the Grand Canyon in July. Hoping to time it so I can work Thursday and Friday, run R2R on Saturday, then head back home on Sunday. The trick will be whether I can book a place at the North Rim Lodge for a Saturday night.
Two more weeks of casual running before I ramp it up for my 12-hour.

Doing a couple of heat runs this week. 116 today, then supposed to be ~120 for the rest of the week.

What sort of benefits do you get from this? Seems really dangerous.

Just remember to take it slow. I did 16 yesterday. Kept the first 13 all between 8:17 and 8:28 with the exception of one mile with a steep hill (8:35). Then I went for marathon pace (7:20) for the final 3 miles and hit 7:18, 7:15, and 7:17. Followed it with 14 slow miles today. 2 days in and half of my weekly mileage is behind me. I have two rough workouts tomorrow, but if I can find some success in them (a big if with how tired my legs are), the rest of the week will be a piece of cake.

Really just acclimatization.
I get pretty use to running in triple digits by the end of August, then when the 90s roll around (or I run early in the morning) I feel really relaxed and efficient.

My pace on these longer (10+ miles) runs have been slow. Maybe 8:30 to 9. It feels really weird going that slow.

Actually throwing my numbers out there probably helps more experienced distance runners like daft and r2d give me advice.

You could do it easily. You just have to be willing to suffer long enough for your body to adjust. I actually weighed about 50 lbs more than I do now in 2009 or so. I remember those first runs feeling like they lasted forever but were really probably only 2 miles. My legs felt so heavy back then.

Meds are a pain in the ass like that. I'm convinced that the blood thinner I take has hurt my energy levels. Got to take the good with the bad I guess.

true...whenever it first gets hot here i feel drained all the time too which doesn't help
before my breakdown i was going to the gym at least a few times a week and i could do a little more each time i went so maybe i can get back to that...just so hard to motivate myself right now

I did my first bit of running in ages today. Nothing spectacular, just some intervals of running as long as it felt comfortable with some walking in between. Just getting back on the horse.

I've been over this with r2d. If you are using a horse, it is cheating.

How the hell else is the horse going to get back in shape?

5.4 miles in 47 minutes. 8.7 minute mile. Meh! I smoked some cigs lately...

Ran next to a woman tonight at my gym doing 6-minute miles. I was doing 6:30s, but because her legs were so much shorter than mine, she looked like she was trashing me. I guess I have never been that close to a woman running that fast before. It was an impressive sight.
We chatted a bit and it turns out she's training to break the woman's masters record for the half marathon at Chicago in October. She's moving to Flagstaff in a month for altitude training. She told me her name and I had never heard of her. Googled her when I got home and sure enough, she has a sub 1:15 finish.
