Album debuted at #5 with 60k sales, a massive flop considering Vs debuted at #1 with nearly a million.

Methinks the band won't be happy at this and a return to BOB is imminent

i don’t know what the numbers themselves mean anymore, and but 5 is a little surprising to me. what was ahead of it?

The fact that anyone at all outside of the collectors and the fetishists buys an album anymore is a minor miracle. The numbers, aside from Taylor Swift, are so minute at this point....

1. Taylor sold 1.9 million albums...devastatingly impressive. 2.6 when you factor in "streaming hours."
2. Future & Metro Boomin' - 69,200
3. Beyonce - 66,110
4. Morgan Wallen - 63,059
5. Pearl Jam - 60,248 - This # includes streaming hours; they actually sold 52,102.

Not that I want to kick this particular hornets’ nest, but it explains a lot in terms of the deals done with Satan - er - Ticketmaster at this point. Gotta get your revenue somewhere.

People just consume music differently now. It’s a shame but that’s just reality.

For what it's worth, all BOB albums except Yield made it to #1. Expect a return to BS/LB sound next album.

I'm not sure how they delineate free vs. paid streams, stip. As far as I can tell, everything seems to fall under the umbrella of "streaming hours", regardless of whether it's a "free" stream from Spotify or a paid sub.

I hope someone else can add some additional context.

I don't think I have ever owned any PJ albums.

I became a fan during internet era. So it was mp3s and then streaming.

I've owned them all, probably many different copies of them, since 1991-2, but I was so bad at looking after them I haven't seen any for maybe 20 years

Goddamn that Morgan Wallen album is a monster. It stinks, of course, but the fact that it's still in the top 5 (and beating Pearl Jam) over a year after its release is just nuts.

I believe half of that 52K in actual sales was vinyl as well

In terms of moving physical product they were likely #2 for the week...but they lag badly behind the others in streaming plays

Gigaton did 63K total and 57K in sales its first week

Taylor’s numbers are amazing. Her album is not that good and I think she knows it but with her fanbase she could release anything and it would be number one.

That new Stones album had a lot more hype going in, and it stopped at #3. Green Day is riding a ton of radio play, and reached #4 (on only 49,000 album equivalent sales, by the way).

It just doesn’t mean remotely the same thing to be a legacy act today that it did 25 years ago. If you release a comeback record or a late career classic (or just a record with significant label support, lol), you can’t count on the monoculture to make sure it reaches people the way it would back then. Any push for attention gets algorithmically siphoned. The container fights against the urge to grow.

Curious about which version made it to UK Harmless, was that made in Czech Republic?
I already have the 10c vinyl and the bluray, but now that I know there's a made in Mexico version I'll likely fall into the trap one more time.

yeah, i mean her fanbase is totally deranged in a way.

Just finished another listen, what a great album this is.

Im loving what Jeff is doing in Wont Tell. Its really adding a lot to the song, kinda counterbalancing how poppy it is.
