Saying his 10 year old wanted to pray for Ford was a nice touch.

Its an interesting approach to come across in testimony as likable and not rapey.

I think the best argument for them torpedoing their supreme court chances would be them not wanting to actually have to do something. It's hard to blame the other team when you are winning (see the Obamacare repeal fiasco).

Actually voting and confirming him would be a shocking example of putting their constituents desires and political principles over self preservation. It would also move the political football uncomfortably further to the right (is that metaphor right?) They might actually have to do something about big government or abortion. Perish the thought.

They'll lose a couple of points in the polls, lose a few more seats maybe, and I'm return get two supreme court picks! That's a steal of a deal.

Then again Kavanaugh is another boring corrupt neocon that probably doesn't represent populist republican's values very much, so they might regret it.

Democracy.

There are a lot of people, men and women both, who are (rightly) repulsed by this guilt by accusation bullshit, so it would play for them.

Not everyone is so afraid of or turned off by anger. That's just something you guys spin your wheels over.

Nah. I dont mind anger. Its healthy. I'd be pissed too if i was wrongly accused. Im just not sure how this approach by him is going to help him in contrast to her testimony.

Because it works for the people it needs to work for. Everyone who is predisposed to go all in on the conspiratorial "it's the media/hollywood/liberals/elitist/etc plot to ruin Kavanaugh" who suspected Ford was some plant on the part of the Dems may have actually reconsidered that kind of viewpoint when listening to her tell her story firsthand. Now they're getting the red meat needed to fuel that grievance and anger all over again. Of course this is the Revenge of the Clintons. Everything is.
