Dean Martin wasn't a great guy
Neither is Will Smith, but that wasn’t really the point.
no, the point (being made by Tree) was "Chris Rock was trying to be nice actually"
Seems that way to me, and I explained how I got there. You can't even explain how that was an insult.
I am not going to rehash Black women's lived experience regarding their hair to you (it's not my place), but I can stand by the stuff I've come across over time; beyond that, if your interest is piqued, I can suggest some of them to follow on your socials; they might be able to demystify some of your confusion

beyond that, I have explained that the joke had racial, misogynistic and ableist components

you've given me "but she's hot lol"
His joke I reiterate was you look like you’re going to play G.I. Jane in a G.I. Jane sequel. What are G.I. Jane’s qualities? Is comparing somebody to G.I. Jane an insult in and of itself? This is my thought process. I do not know the history of black women and hair. I did not consider this when reading into Chris rocks joke because it is not a deep or profound joke. It is actually very simple and because I trust that Chris Rock is not a racist asshole trying to put down black women at the Oscars I assumeIt is irrelevant. But I will look into the black women and hair thing because now I am curious.
Dude... I've been trying to somewhat agree with you but at some point you'll have to concede it was about her hair.
Oh it was definitely about her hair. But it sounded like an empowering statement to me. G.I. Jane pulled off that short hair like a bad ass mofo.
dredging this post from the deep. let’s let this oxidize & again luxuriate in its wild swipes at meaning

I get that we are all just using this as a jumping off point to talk about larger things, but its still very funny that this is all based on an actor slapping a comedian on a fake tv show.

30 pages to go!

I think it's running out of steam though, someone's going to have to say something racist soon.

It ran out of steam many pages ago. Probably when it became about communism.
