Did you get her number too?run2death wrote:Ran next to a woman tonight at my gym doing 6-minute miles. I was doing 6:30s, but because her legs were so much shorter than mine, she looked like she was trashing me. I guess I have never been that close to a woman running that fast before. It was an impressive sight.
We chatted a bit and it turns out she's training to break the woman's masters record for the half marathon at Chicago in October. She's moving to Flagstaff in a month for altitude training. She told me her name and I had never heard of her. Googled her when I got home and sure enough, she has a sub 1:15 finish.
I know it sucks but just punish yourself. You never know when having a good cardiovascular base will come in handy in the future. Sometimes I calm my panic symptoms by reminding myself I can run two miles from danger without breaking a sweat.lennytheweedwhacker wrote:i never want to do it again and i'm about to stuff my face with baconDev wrote:woo! running get's pretty addicting, leonard. keep at it.lennytheweedwhacker wrote:did a half mile on the treadmill
What's wrong with your foot?guestT wrote:New shoes and Superfeet coming today. Supposed to run a 10K race on Saturday but haven't been able to run more than 5 miles without pain in about 2.5 weeks. Ugh.

In the summer, you can also try college campuses, since they're likely to be sparsely populated. I let my daughter loose recently and she ran for a few hours until she dropped:verb_to_trust wrote:I've heard running in grass barefoot is good for your feet and I sometimes do this goofing around with a soccer ball at the field by my house.

Hey, thanks for the tips! I appreciate it. Calf tightness and leg tightness in general is definitely an issue for me. I've been doing a bunch of stretches like this one this week, rolling out with a tennis ball, etc. My feet are super wide and flat so no matter which approach I take with shoes it seems like something goes wrong.run2death wrote:Stretching is the best cure for PF. I get it occasionally as I start to ramp up mileage in training. Your PF is likely flaring up at 3 miles because your calves are getting tight.
This is the best stretch for PF:
You may also try to focus on forefoot running more as that'll engage the top of you calves more than heel-striking, which typically engages the bottom of the calves more.
Regulars in this thread are probably sick of my minimalist rantings, but you should be careful with buying super padded "motion control" shoes and inserts. They'll alter your form. They could relieve you PF but destroy your knees. YOU should alter your form to relieve the pain or become more efficient NOT your shoes.
i'll try and do .6 miles next timeverb_to_trust wrote:I know it sucks but just punish yourself. You never know when having a good cardiovascular base will come in handy in the future. The opposite. I love reading these posts. Very informative.run2death wrote:Stretching is the best cure for PF. I get it occasionally as I start to ramp up mileage in training. Your PF is likely flaring up at 3 miles because your calves are getting tight.

During the run is better but yes.verb_to_trust wrote:The only time I ever feel sane is during the hour or so after a run.
It is ok to take breaks walking and go back to it.lennytheweedwhacker wrote:i'll try and do .6 miles next timeverb_to_trust wrote:I know it sucks but just punish yourself.
