These days I'm more worried about the studio executives overseeing these teams than the creative teams themselves. They can crush the life out of the best visionaries in the world, especially with budgets this huge. The directors are little more than middle management. Snyder doesn't have the clout to do much.

I'm probably just being cynical.

Sure, in some cases (*COUGH*marvel*COUGH*), but certainly not always (*COUGH*godzilla*COUGH*). I don't get that vibe from anything I've seen out of DC at this point.

You're not being cynical. That's the way of the corporate world. What you're talking about is usually the norm. Exceptions are rare.

"Snyder! Make it dark and gritty, like the Nolan ones, but not too dark and gritty! Throw in some one liners. and could we get a cave troll in there? Kids today love cave trolls. Also, can Batman drink Mountain Dew at some point?"

Point is, we don't know yet. The only thing we know is that they want to have a cinematic universe. Suicide Squad shows promise based on the little we've seen, I'll grant you. But Dawn looks like a cluster fuck.

As Peeps pointed out, Marvel did a good job at slowly introducing characters over a period of time. DC looks like they want to jam everyone into one big fucking movie and call it a day. Hopefully, they can pull it off. But it's way too early to praise their achievements or to bash them for failing.
Im with LV in the sense that they approach seems to be cinematic as hell too. I mean...Snyder and Ayer are stars by this point...and yes, i agree that DOJ seems like it could be a potentially clusterfuck, and that there are too many characters, but it seems DC wont try to give us origins for all of them...which is a pretty cool thing. Imagine if we got the Avengers as a first movie?? That seems bold.

Maaaybe....this is whats going to happen here.

Absolutely.

I hope they can pull it off. Could be really interesting.

I'm all for taking this approach. Its smart to avoid copying Marvel. I can't sit through any more fucking origin stories. I don't give a shit where Wonder Woman came from. Just get on with it.

I dont know where this Batman came from. All i can gather is probably from the streets of boston. Cut his teeth on roughing up nerds at harvard bah's.

The joker came from hot topic.

These are interesting back stories in these new characters.

Wait is LV talking about 2014 Godzilla or 1998 Godzilla? Because it absolutely makes no fucking difference at all.

My favorite part of Godzilla was when he looked at the camera and roared. No, the other time he looked at the camera and roared. No the other, other time. No not that one, the other time.

Is there any plan to incorporate some of the DC Tv shows into the movie universe like Marvel is doing? I know Deadshot has been in a few Arrow episodes. But you now have Arrow, Flash, and Legends of Tomorrow on TV.

Pretty much yes...Part of why Man of steel was a letdown for me was the origin story part....and the fact that they are going to tell us with Batman what happened after he lost Jason Todd....well, that interesting.

I'm pretty sure that when Superman pulls off Bruce's hood he's on the verge of barking like a dog. Possible human-canine-bat hybrid.

DC is fully embracing the multiverse so canon doesn't become a hindrance for TV and The Movies. It's actually a pretty smart approach since it allows people to tell the stories they want while leaving open the option for crossovers. All you need is a Flash to cross dimensions.

It's not cynical to be concerned about executives crushing artistic vision. Obviously, that has been the norm in blockbuster filmmaking for a long time. And, of course, it still is. But I do think the paradigm has changed a bit, because both (some) executives and filmmakers have gotten savvier to the corporate movie culture, and have adapted to it; corporate direction and artistic vision are no longer necessarily mutually exclusive. Dudes like Tull from Legendary and Feige from Marvel aren't idiots, and they interview throngs of directors for their projects. Why? Because they want to choose a director whose vision is going to match the direction in which they want to steer the project. Is it likely the Warner Bros. wanted MOS to be "dark and gritty" like their massively popular Batman movies? Of course! So what makes more sense: hiring a director who doesn't want to do that, and then crushing his or her vision, or hiring a director whose vision aligns with what they want, and who will be, therefore, easy to work with? It's possible for a movie to both honor the vision of the auteur and be in line with the corporate marketing strategy. And I think, with stuff like MOS, Godzilla, and, sure, even the upcoming SW films, that's what we're starting to see. And I'm pretty excited about it.

I've actually really enjoyed most of the Marvel movies and thought they did an excellent job at building the universe, individually, and then collectively. I also feel all of the characters play off each other well and it seems to fit and make sense.

This batman vs superman thing is giving me a headache and im not sure how to wrap my head around it. I will watch it and im sure ill find some enjoyment in it though. What's their hurry though? And at what point do people just say enough is enough with putting characters in there? Whats the point? honest question: Were the DC comic crossovers as bloated?

Most movies that I watch don't require that every major character get their own origin movie first. I don't see why this is any different. 90 minutes is plenty of time to flesh out these characters.

I love what Marvel did with their movies, but I don't see it as a template.

Right they will be from different Earths.

What started out as "batman vs superman" turned into batman vs superman for a little while until a bigger threat comes and then a bunch of other magical super hero's show up and then they all have to come together as one to defeat this big thing so that the world wont explode and then make more movies and have a bit of animosity against each other and then Avengers
