i love what the pianos add in lightning bolt
Yeah, they're totally not what keeps that from being a long term listen.

I am curious as to what people think of the quality of the songs compared to the previous 2 albums. I personally do find myself a fan more of the 90's era PJ but still love any and all albums they have put out. Is the stuff darker than Backspacer in any way?
Its just different, darker maybe...The songs just have a lot more depth, which I think is something that sets this band apart from a lot of other acts in the past 20 years...

Will someone please tell me what AOR and MOR mean.

I guess I don't need them to be especially weird or dark for me to like the music/ find it cool but I'd like it to stop short or being what I think is cheesy, more than they used to be. As in all these spiritual faith related or new agey feel the earth humming lyrics and like that ltrp chorus, I understand not everyone finds these things cheesy and I guess I can respect the band for going down this route because that's where they are rather than going for faux angst cause they're 'grunge', but yeah still don't like listening to it.

I'm gonna offset the negativity in this post by saying I quite like getaway and am still excited to hear the rest of the album.

I´m still pissed and frustrated about this, more specifically the outro solo. Maybe this is an edit? One of the reviews reported that the song was 4:35, this is 4:14.

the bridge is shortened on this leak, compared to the live version, so maybe this is an edit (a single edit maybe?).

but yea, the bridge and the outro are hurt by the piano. pearl jam has two incredible guitarists, but instead we get brendan twinkling away. i really like this song, but at this point, i prefer the live, sans-bob version.

So - after searching around for a while - I thought I had stumbled across said holy grail of tracks - turned out to be what I can only describe as the sound of a hundred babies screaming. While arousing - not what I was looking for..... :(

Its funny - when I heard these leaks the first time I wasn't into any of the tunes besides Lightning Bolt...

but on this third go around I am finding myself liking the tracks a bit more. I guess I just wanted to hear the dark and heavy PJ that I was disappointed but then just started listening to the songs for what they were and I am pleased with them

MOR = Middle of the Road
AOR = Adult-Orientated Rock

Or perhaps this leak is an early version and the full bridge will be on the final...

Album Oriented Rock and Middle Of The Road. Basically mass appeal rock a la Journey. They are considered lame formats but like anything there are good bands that were played on those types of radio stations.

don't adults usually listen to whatever they listened to when they were teenagers?

Not really feeling the Backspacer comparisons with these at all. Other than LB which IMO would instantly be the best song on that album. Mostly good stuff here and the songs seem to have a nice amount of energy or urgency that was missing on the last record. Anyways, I'm new hi

Well, the 22 year-old version, yes.

It's just something that people say who aren't that age and are embarrassed to play the stuff in front of their friends.

exactly. that's why I don't buy this MOR AOR stuff. It's not like pearl jam has a fan base that suddenly stopped listening to the music they used to and started listening to the music their parents listen to. It's just that the stuff I listened to becomes the stuff my kids say their parents listen to

At the end of the day, we can't be mad at them for that. Maybe that's just them showing their age and not a conscious decision they made as songwriters. This happens to be a snapshot of where they are at in their lives. If they have a mass appeal, I won't like them less. Everyone wants to crucify BOB, but really people need to realize that if the album sucks, maybe the band is just writing shitty music.

I personally love what I'm hearing, and I'm glad it's not a retread of anything of theirs I've heard before. There are the obligatory comparisons that can be made, but they always challenge themselves to do something different, and there's nothing lazy about that.

Technically, the Pearl Jam of the 90s it´s still Dad Rock.
