Anyone have better success going through their insurer than going through a community testing site? I was able to schedule same day appointments with community testing sites (set up in church parking lots, etc). Able to find a turn around time of <12 hrs from a community testing site. Other one was more like 48 hrs. One of them asked survey questions like if I had insurance, but never asked for provider info or policy #.

Testing via CVS or through HMO directly meant having to wait a day or more for an appointment. Turn around time projected at 72 hrs I believe.

Are they going to start shutting down the community testing centers with delta and mu?

No, I'm vaccinated. The meek and mild Pfizer, not that high proof Moderna, unfortunately.

i did the cvs drive thru this time. scheduled it monday or tuesday, got a slot thursday. results in 1-2 days, so i guess if i was symptomatic, i'd be down for close to a week. they asked for my insurance card, but didn't ask if i was symptomatic (which supposedly is what's needed to get it covered).

my fam visiting is also getting tests... found a walk-in clinic in their area that'll do any age and it's covered. results in 24 hours (by midnight the day you get tested). this will work best for them. so look for those if you're in a pickle.

That kinda tracks with my experience. The few clinics with their own testing capacity can do 12-24 hours. Everyone else seems to just toss samples in a sack and send them en mass every day or so, hence the 72 hour result turn around.

The clinic with the fast turn around was not well publicized, and we only heard of it through the grapevine. I expect that is pretty common.

There's a quick turnaround place by my work, but if its not covered by them due to a workplace exposure its $100+.

You'd think we would have figured this out by now. Just an awning up in front of your nearest Labcorp or Quest Diagnostic Lab so at least you have some confidence your sample is in the general vicinity of some lab equipment.

there are also clinics with expedite fees in the $200-300 range - which i've heard insurance will sometimes retro cover. if you're ever in a situation where that'd be worth it to get back to work, etc.

i had an employee who was out a couple weeks last year because my employer wouldn't pay the expedite fee, and we were slammed at the time. so dumb.
