That opening and Luke throwing the lightsaber were direct from Spaceballs. Its almost as if Rian was saying, guys...these movies are too much.

Those two moments and Leia floating really took me out of the movie early on.

I thought starkiller base was stupid. That was definitely lazy writing.

It is, but again, it's been reframed by The Last Jedi. That movie makes crystal clear that one of the biggest flaws in The First Order is that they believe size equals strength. They look at what the Empire built and truly believe that the only reason it didn't work is that it wasn't big and fast and powerful enough. Their entire model has been "Just like The Empire but WAY BIGGER." It's Trump-philosophy as Star Wars villain.

In the context of TLJ, Starkiller base becomes less lazy and far more logical, to me.

Then there's all the theories that Starkiller base was made out of the planet Illium. Which, if that's true, is super fucking badass.

Yep. It's featured in The Clone Wars series. It's an ice planet loaded with kyber crystals. Starkiller base doesn't have to be made from that planet but it makes a lot of sense and would be cool if they ever reveal that to be the case.

We do actually. The new visual dictionary tells us Luke started his journey on Kashykk. And he’s only been on the island the last few years. I havent got the book yet but that’s the jist so far. Screenshots of the book are out there if you’re curious.

The visual dictionary has so much cool shit in it. Stuff about Snoke's ring. And that weird guy who's in the trailer (in the Throne Room) but not in the actual movie (the navigator). Fun shit.
