It’s weird what’s happening in here. I was going to make a post about how maybe the timing of her statement was not great, but then seeing all of the reactions in here of men shitting on her for her experiences reminded me there’s never an “ideal” time to talk about SA and misogyny. I’m admittedly conflicted because i love the music of both of these artists. But the selective outrage depending on the person in society is really weird. And I’m guilty of it as well. Hell i still go to Pearl Jam concerts and they have a guy on stage with them that fucking killed a guy. Not sure what my point is other than in this case it seems more targeted here on RM?

I still haven't read about whatever Glen may have been accused of (apart from Neko's letters, that is). I'm assuming there's more? So apologies if I'm way off base...

But isn't it just kind of common sense that when a perpetrator of SA dies, then victims of SA feel more free to share their feelings/experiences? Isn't that like table stakes navigation of structural power dynamics?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but from what I gather she wasn't sexually assaulted by him, nor did she see any, so why are you acting like she's a victim of Glen? She got mad that he asked her to bang a friend and then saw him fawning over the nineteen year old, who may or may not have cared? Why am I supposed to care about this?

That said, it sounds like there was some other events that would make him out to be worse? Ok, we can look at that stuff to see if there is anything there, but I don't see why I'm supposed to treat her like she's unimpeachable just because her dad abused her.

I'm not a fan of either's music so I have no attachment to any of these people. Neither strike me as people I'd want to hang out with.

There are some stories bubbling up but nothing solid. This is either gonna result in some publication doing an exposé in the coming months (if there's something) or it's just gonna quietly die off (if there's nothing).

Which is why our default position should really be "I don't know any of these people and I have no idea what is going on, so I won't judge and will instead go about my day". But here we are!

This is admittedly my ideal, and I’m slowly getting better at it. But still do struggle with judging people.

Which is not to say I’m going to give sexual abusers an easy pass. More that I’m less likely to research someone just to form an opinion. But it kind of depends on the subject. If it’s a politician or someone who wields a bunch of power, my interest increases. Given I don’t care about Glen, I’m actively working on the part of me that is compelled to even form an opinion.

Now I’m mad at myself for even making this post.

I just get annoyed by the knee-jerk, condescending "I'm so disappointed that you don't see things my way" bullshit that inevitably gets thrown out by people who probably didn't even read what she wrote and can't be bothered to present an argument. They can shove that smug bullshit back up their asses.
