I'm still inclined to think this is more of a result of intuition than brains, but people like her and Trump so seem to understand the importance of moving the Overton Window. Making big ridiculous claims is already a win.

There is no fucking way that fossil fuels will ever be phased out as quickly as they need to be without nuclear energy. It's so frustrating that people try to have this both ways.

And yes, there are plenty of other problems with this as well. At least I do like that it's excise tax averse.
I think we're now playing the game where you suggest things that are ridiculously far to one side of the political spectrum until you manage to move the normal more in that direction.
Yeah, so we'll end up with a shit sandwich in which we effectively get a national sales tax and some convoluted bureaucracy to dole out subsidies for venture clean industry firms. Figures.

Is her team denying her release of the GND was legit, or is that just other folks and they're hoping they provide cover? Some are pushing a narrative that the press embargoed release that was sent to so many was actually a GOP forgery. I guess this will work for DSA partisans, but who else is buying that BS?

To me this is exactly what Bernie Sanders was always trying to do, and found a lane in 2016 (not that he was the only one to do so).

If Americans get a medicare buy-in option in the next few years, it'll be because it's a (new) middle ground. A better way to finance college may happen when "free college & the current system" are the two actual sides.

The green new deal is another great example - seems more of a commitment to an ideal that can be negotiated down while still (possibly) having a good impact.

I don't think "neoliberal" policies/ideas are bad. They're probably the best actual compromise. But they are a compromise and not necessarily what you want to bring to the beginning of the negotiation. That's how things get watered down to the point where it's insufficient and ultimately a loss.

I don't buy the "If Dems over-promise and can't deliver it's a disaster" argument. The GOP has not operated this way in my lifetime, and they have more power. I like the John Kasich approach where he says "I am not a moderate, just someone who will sit down and try to find a compromise." People like Warren and Sanders have shown they can compromise when needed without sacrificing bold initiative.

I don't understand why AOC is linked to Amazon's pull-out. She has no authority over New York City or New York state.
