Re: Retrograde
This song has Brendan O'Brien's sticky goo all over it. Those sounds he's making on that fucking keyboard. It would have been right at home on the last two records, but sticks out like a sore thumb on here.
The ending is a different story and is absolutely one of the best moments on the album.

Wasn't "Retrograde" one of the songs mentioned in the Italian website's list of songs done during sessions for either Riot Act or S/T?

no, it was not.
But it was one of the two songs recorded during the 'cant deny me' sessions with BO'B

Re: Retrograde
I believe Retrograde is the only song from the Can’t Deny Me (album/sessions), that made Gigaton.

I keep thinking about the “pile” of songs Stone mentioned in an interview/article, and I can’t help wondering about the songs that were left out/replaced by Retrograde.stip wrote:wow - so retrograde was one of the keepers?
And will they ever get out there?

And they also most likely had a full album ready with Can’t Deny Me, Retrograde and other songs.dad wrote:I keep thinking about the “pile” of songs Stone mentioned in an interview/article, and I can’t help wondering about the songs that were left out/replaced by Retrograde.stip wrote:wow - so retrograde was one of the keepers?

I feel like BOB recorded the first 3.5 minutes and then Josh had them add in the last 1.5 minutes that sounds good.

I complete get why the first 2/3 of the song can be unappealing to people because of how it resembles LB generic BoB BS, but I don’t get the hate this song gets. Even the first 2/3 are pleasant and set up the spectacular ending well.

Re: Retrograde
Sounding like L-bollt and Backspacer isn't a problem for me, and the first part of this song isn't doing much either. I don't hate it by any means. It's okay. Re: Retrograde
I know I’m in the minority here, but I really love this song. There’s a lot of thought put into the arrangement - can hear them holding themselves back throughout.
Ed’s approach to the melody - the way he actually sings it - is lyrical and dare I say...even beautiful throughout. His vocal approach here is akin to what he did in Better Days (it’s in a similar part of his voice).
The build up towards the end is clearly the standout section.
The overall production of the song is beautiful. I mean - there’s really not a song or moment on Gigaton that I dislike.

Re: Retrograde
I played a few of the songs for my six-year old and she hated them all except this one which she really liked. So now I’m stuck with it for better or worse...
