They don't sound particularly similar to me. I mean I totally hear a Beatles influence on the song but it's always sounded more generic Beatles-like or Beatles-esque (in the the style of, etc) than like a real rip off. But either way, I probably like ATY more than Yesterday if I'm being honest. And I don't think ATY is a top-tier PJ song.
We talk a lot about overrated songs here on RM. And as lovely as Yesterday is (and it is lovely) it might be the single most overrated song in pop music history. It's good. But it's like THAT good.

Yesterday (The Beatles song), has a wonderful melody. I like the top comment on this youtube video:
Imagine writing a song so good it can make Beatles fan girls stop screaming and listen.
First ever performance of Yesterday, and first time ever a Beatles song was performed by only one member:

For balance:
Live 1998:
Album version:
Don't you think you oughtta rest?
Don't you think you oughtta lay you head down?
Don't you think you want to sleep?
Don't you think you oughtta lay your head down
Tonight?
Don't you think you've done enough?
Oh, don't you think you've got enough? well maybe...
You don't think there's time to stop
There's time enough for you to lay your head down,
Tonight, tonight
Let it wash away
All those yesterdays
What are you running from?
Taking pills to get along
Creating walls to call your own
So no one catches you?
Drifting off and doing all the things...
That we... all do
Let them wash away
All those yesterdays
All those yesterdays
All those paper plates
All those yesterdays
You've got time... you've got time to escape
There's still time... it's no crime to escape
It's no crime to escape... it's no crime to escape
There's still time, so escape
It's no crime, crime..

These are two great songs, but if you pull up that performance from Benaroya Hall of Immortality, I just don’t think it’s even that close. One of the all time greats.

I absolutely love both songs. I do think Immortality is better, but I voted for ATY because I'd rather hear that after doing Release -> Indifference.

This is thread topic adjacent but...
I made a "two disc" mix based on the premise of our two Ultimate threads. Listening through Disc One now and I have SO many thoughts.
1. Vitalogy is back to being my favorite Pearl Jam album. Every time I listen that album I'm filled with an emotion that I just can't fully explain.
2. Even Flow is an all-timer and I can't believe it doesn't get more love (overplayed or no).
3. In My Tree is still my favorite song.
4. I don't think I've listened the Spotify Mix of Avocado before. Marker sounds great. Wow.
5. Marker into Amongst the Waves works extremely well and I did not expect that.

So, are we going for disc two ?!?
It would be awesome. We could even go reverse order (track 13 to 1) or mix it up (track 13 to 10, 5 to 1, 9 to 6).

This album came out when I was 16/17 and it's been my favorite album (any band) since. My emotional connection to it hasn't been matched elsewhere.
