I was thinking about that oriental feel Education has. It made me think of Better Days. I wonder if Ed has written more of those.

Sorry the YT link in my above post didnt work
Still try to give it a look, the fan made video enhances the music in a great way without distracting you from it one bit.

Yeah, very different atmosphere. The other mix sounds jam-band-ish almost.

Wait, when did PJ music start needing images/video to improve the experience?
btw I enjoyed that.

A coworker and I were talking about the movie PJ20 and a younger guy (23ish) spoke up and said that movie made him fall in live with pearl jam and made him go out and get the albums, boots, etc.
I have my issues with Crowe's flow, direction, etc but I kept that to myself because I could truly see in his eyes and hear in his voice how much that movie did for him as a spring board to have the experience of diving into 20 years worth of music and it made me happy.
So happy that I put PJ20 on this morning for the first time since seeing it and tried to watch it through the eyes of someone who's never heard/scene this band and while I still have my issues (glossing over the drummer thing especially), the scene where they play Release and talk about its origins just gave me goosebumps and made me tear up a little.
It is so easy to get cynical and pre-judge things this band does (and some I outright wince at), but the band i have loved for about 2/3 of my life just played a show until 2 in the fucking morning while Phish and Pitchfork fest cancelled/stopped early.
I wasn't at Wrigley but relayed the story of that show to some friends who listen to rock and are at least vaguely familiar with Pearl Jam and got a nice "wow" reaction.
I'm rambling, but I had a fun Sunday morning because of PJ and there is really no other band that excites me like they do and I can't imagine a life without them.

Education just keeps getting better with age. Whenever I go back to Lost Dogs, I find that song to be more of a favorite each time.
+1
Every bit of it is brilliant, from the drum opener to Ed's "Hey!" in unison with the first guitar chord played
Completely agree I want more of this style from Ed and the Pearl Jams.

One thing I love about Pearl Jam is that each member is phenomenally talented. I think Ament is a really great, natural bass player. There are parts on Vitalogy that I connect with more than anything else I have ever heard. I also love Present Tense and nearly all of Binaural for bass parts. Three Fish has some really great bass songs, esp. Strangers in My Head and Elusive Ones.
Gossard is my favourite guitar player bar none. Something about his tone and sense of rhythm is so gratifying, and there is no way to pick a best moment, but his playing in 2000 live, Come Bite the Apple, Stargazer, Touring band instrumentals, Rival esp. the chorus, Dissident, Not For You, Of the Girl are as good as it gets in my books.
Mcready, Enough said in another thread about his solo's, he is incredible and his positive energy is a big part of the propelling force of modern day Pearl Jam. Cropduster!!!!!
Their singer, what was his name again? Truly amazing lyrics and vocals.
Matt/Jack/Dave/Dave/Matt have all been excellent drummers, keeping things fresh with the change ups. Cameron has become a permanent member in my mind. All his Pearl Jam tunes rule my ears, I even love Evacuation (one of the best PJ bridges ever?).

I just listened to the Speed of Sound demo for the first time. Wow it's way less shitty than the album version. Fuck this band.

They turned a not-great-but-at-least-listenable song into something really awful.

But let's get back to praising and being charitable. I'll start: the melody to the Speed of Sound chorus is beautiful.
