Yeah, I would say punk is my "home genre" -- it's the first type of music I really latched on to independently (outside of my parents' influence) and in a way what facilitated my current interest in pop music (since it could be argued that punk -- or at least the type of punk I'm most into -- is basically just a grittier, rough-around-the-edges version of pop music). These days if I'm looking for something energetic I'll throw on an album by The Damned, Rich Kids on LSD, Dag Nasty, Satanic Surfers, or Bad Religion. Or the Ramones if I want it to be catchy/fun too. I love a bunch of punk music from all eras.
I don't listen to a ton of metal, but when I do I seem to gravitate towards the stoner / groove / sludge side of it. Like I love Big Business. Whenever I pick an electric guitar my hands are immediately improvising stonery riffs, I guess because they're the most fun to play. And I also really like Baroness, I would say they're one of my favorite bands. Uhh, what else... Metallica is one of those bands I'm super familiar with because of an early interest but I don't really listen to them anymore. Iron Maiden too, to a lesser extent. I was into Korn for a while... actually, speaking of nu-metal, a band I got super into for a brief period that nobody really talks about anymore was Powerman 5000. I still think the chorus of "When Worlds Collide" is amazing.
And a band I love that kind of bridges the worlds of punk and metal (they started as a skate-punk band in the vein of RKL before incorporating a bunch of progressive metal elements) is Propagandhi. They're among the best most politically engaged bands working today, and I think their song "
At Peace" is in contention for my favorite rock song of the year. Incredible riff

Ah yeah, I didn't even think about the poppier punk stuff, it's clear that was big for you. Appreciate the detailed response, loud stuff has always been so big for me so I'm always curious to know how people who love music to the degree you do engage or don't engage with it.

Jorge or VG, have either of you ever taken a ferry from BA to Montevideo? If so, was it enjoyable/comfortable?

Yeah it's pleasant. Spring for first class to avoid the crowded areas. It's not that much more expensive

Thanks Jorge. My wife has a milestone birthday in a year and a half, and she's always dropping hints about Uruguay and Argentina. She took me to Scotland/Shetland last year, so I think I may plan this trip for her.
