Keep in mind it’s an Apple thing, so all I do is put on my AirPods, open the media player on the iPhone, click home and search Pearl Jam, scroll down to albums, and there it is.

so there’s no way to listen on a 5.1 surround setup like the vitalogy and binaural blurays?

I like the hand claps in WWS. Those were always there?

The handclaps took me by surprise too.
I’d say the Bluray treatment would be the next logical step.
The same could be said for a repress of Lost Dogs, Benaroya Hall, or a new Lost Dogs II, so you never know with PJ.

Just got a set of noise-cancelling AirPods 4 for my birthday (to replace my aging old pair of AirPods).

I have to say the Dolby Atmos mix of Binaural is pretty spectacular. Binaural has always been an album that has "aged" incredibly well for me from a songwriting perspective—hearing the binaural mix through Atmos is game changing for me sonically though. I'm hearing all kinds of details in the guitar tones and effects and even straight up guitar parts that I didn't know were in there. Sleight of Hand is particularly revealing but every song is like that. The mastering/production are like a warm blanket on my eardrums—even on the heavier stuff. Highly recommend getting a newer set of AirPods to experience it.

Do you have to have a specific type of quality headphones/earbuds to enjoy the Dolby Atmos mixes?

Every brand does it a little different, but in a nutshell: Yeah.
Soundbars advertise Dolby Atmos but don’t really pull it off.
Speakers that properly achieve Dolby Atmos are an arm and a leg.

So Dolby Atmos ready earbuds/headphones are a true and accessible option.

Goes without saying that the source track needs to be mixed in Dolby Atmos, and running through a DA capable device.

You do. All the current model Apple/Beats headphones support Spatial Audio/Atmos. There are third party headphones that are also compatible from Sony, Bose, etc.

The AirPods 4 are the lowest end of the Apple variety and they sound incredible to my ears. Earbuds can always be tricky though (AirPods Pro don't fit in my ears well at all). The AirPods 3 I had before were technically compatible with Atmos but they didn't sound anywhere near as good as what I have now—I think the noise cancelling helps too.
