By the way, isn't the line "Try to say that fossils ain't been found?" Not "profound?" I might be wrong.

I was listening on headphones again and I'm pretty sure it's "profound". You know how Science and religion conflict, Darwin..evolution..God and Adam and Eve. "Try to say that fossils ain't profound" is like saying, Here...fossils...proof that things didn't just start with a guy and a girl and an apple...try and dispute it when you can hold the proof in your hand. That's how I take it anyway.

that's definitely part of it. May also be a 'you don't need god when the life/science/biology/the fact that we're here at all is profound'
fossils ain't been found would work too, though. To the liner notes!

Yep. I'm sure you're right, just thought the other possibility was worth mentioning. There's a lot of misheard lyric potential here

especially "He puts his red dress on"...

I'm basically taking the meaning of this song as a whole as "I have my own beliefs and feelings, you have yours and you're entitled as am I. Don't force your religious beliefs on me as fact and I won't force mine on you."

It's pretty polite lol. Other than the for gods sake at the end. Even that's a polite ' for fucks sake'.

Yeah, I wonder if that is part of the point. Toning down the conflict?

Piece by piece the album slots together.

I bet he thinks he's being all mature and shit.

I read hardline agnostic from Ed's lyrics anyway. If you can get a hardline agnostic. He's very "live and let live."

I'm a fucking cheeseball, right, but the line "But I've found my place, and it's alright" is really speaking to me right now. Simple, perfect statement.

I'm just taking the piss. 'For fucks sake' would have been hilariously bad. Gods sake ties back into the whole religious theme, maybe if it was at the end of every chorus instead if just the end? I dunno.
Also all the its alrights and its oks really makes it sound like the song is trying to be comforting/ reassuring if your not paying attention to it. In a hey hey its ok kinda way, that's what it reminded me of anyway. And that's kinda off putting beacause its really not, its basically saying 'that's cool, please go away'.
wait all the its alrights come in a different part of the song right? Whatever songs still ok.

Yup, I think so. "It's alright, but no thanks" is the sentiment.
I hope he says "For fuck's sake" live a few times, though. There are a few opportunities for F-bombs here.

I'm also wondering whether "Science says..." occasionally changes to "Simon Says..." (as in the game), but I don't know where yet.
