Thats such a weird effect, maybe it sound like hes singing really high pitched.
It sounds like compression distortion to me. Like, maybe they copy-pasted the vocal so it was on two tracks, and one they fed echo into and the other they compressed to the point of distorting.
I heard this today too. I will have to listen closely with some decent cans though.

My only complaint with this song is that it's too short. Ed could have added another verse before the ah-ah-ah-ah part and extended the thing to around 5 minutes. But maybe leaving us wanting more was the idea.

It's hurting my ears whenever it comes on, and there's a hiss in the background of it.

That seems to be the idea whenever they write a great song

Reminds me of some of Springsteen's moodier post-2000 stuff.

That can be other things besides loudness. As much as I love Wasted Reprise the organ sounds harsher on my ears than it needs to, and it's not an overmodulated track. Maybe EQ'd too hot on the high ends?

Yes, possibly. I'm just a bit weirded out by the hiss, where I don't get it in the previous track or the next one. Maybe it'll sound more consistent on the CD.

Wasted Reprise: Sounds like poor mic placement to my ears. Made it harsh. I always wondered if they just did that sort of off the cuff ("I wonder what the song would sound like if we..."), with no intentions of keeping it, and they ended up tagging it on to the album because they thought it boosted the thematic qualities of it.

Pendulum: checking now on the itunes stream. Not hearing a hiss. Maybe a digital artifact of whatever rip you're listening to?

I'm sure this has been asked, but what bitrate is iTunes streaming at?

I think 128. But there's a 320 version out there that doesn't look like a transcode.

It's 226 but it's AAC not mp3.

This would be one of my favourites but I can't get past the ah ahs at the end yet.

They will be an opener at least once on the coming tour.

*This is what happens when you think "They will open with this at least once.." and "This one will be an opener at least once.." while typing and do not look at your post before hitting the submit button.

Yeah possibly. I think I only get it from the rip.

This is definitely the beef jerky of posts. It looked so thin in the wrapping, but it seems like I've been chewing on it for days.

The bass line in what I guess is the bridge right before the last lines is hypnotizing.
