i'm trying to give eddie the benefit of the doubt here.
dont u think they could have done that w/o changing the lyrics?
this is a real thing? he changed the lyrics to a character in the movie?
yeah that sounds too lame to be true.
really the most egregious thing here is straight to full chorus after the first verse.

Those are the credits for the two versions of Release in the movie. They don't really answer whether or not anything besides the vocals were re-recorded. The vocals are total 2013 Ed though. Screeching "hees" and lots of extra h's and needless syllables. I'm not gonna lie, it kinda hurt.
Since Dave Krusen is listed in the newer version it seems they didnt rerecord the music.
Eddie has changed the 'dear___' to different names before, but seeing as this dude is fictional yeah its kinda weird.
I guess he was
moved by the film or some shit.

Krusen is just listed as a writer though. The performance is credited to Pearl Jam, so it's plausible it's a rerecording. I really don't think it is though.

No that's a written by credit. Nothing to do with performance at all.

If that's what release has come to, we're in a sad state of affairs. I mean, sure, rearrange daughter and plop it at the end of any movie you want, but release?

At least we have a studio version of release without master slave at the end, if anybody wanted that

Actually, I stayed through to the very end of the credits, and sure enough, there was Master/Slave at the end of it all. Except it's a new version where Ed wishes you a safe trip home from the theatre over the music, and reminds you to pick up Pearl Jam's latest studio album, called "Lightning Bolt," on your way home.

he's changed the lyrics before in a live setting, most likely spur of the moment, or to honor someone who's recently died. this is a fucking movie about fake people.
this might be the single most disappointing thing pearl jam has ever done. they might as well make a video for 'black' now. im floored by this.

Dave Krusen gets a chunk of cash too which is about the only positive from this.
