Me too.

Sounds like magic, though--especially once the full band kicks in.

I completely agree with this. Merkinball feels way more Vitalogy than No Code.
In that case, where would you track them on Vitalogy?
And don't you dare cut Aye Davanita to do it! I've got my eye on you, Davis.
Don't worry, I'm not into the retracking thing. I'll leave Vitalogy be, "Stupid Mop" and all.

I find I listen to this album at certain times of the year. Like the end of summer.

Vitalogy, No Code, and Binaural are all night albums for me. Preferably while it's cold and raining.

Vitalogy and Riot Act all get a bit of run around Autumn/Winter too.

Your time periods (and for No Code too) are related to when those albums were released. That often happens to me, too.
In some ways, it even still remains an issue I have with Binaural. That is not a summer album, but it came out right at the start of summer. Felt all wrong.

I agree with Vitalogy and Binaural, but I'd drop NC for RA for the cold / rainy / winter vibe.

Normally I would agree, but the first time I listened to No Code, I was out for a drive in a solid thunderstorm, so I guess it just stuck with me

Bummer to drop Sometimes but Shit into Hail works great....
Damn.
That's outstanding. I'd probably throw All Night after Off He Goes. That would be my perfect No Code.

Yes. This is very true...i wish they could put out some singles with 2 or 3 songs instead of waiting for 4 years to get a new record..for example, why not release a single with of the earth, ole and some new song?

at times 'im open' has a dead can dance 'the carnival is over' jingle which i'm not ok with.

I'm Open is a great sonic landscape. I can ignore/suspend disbelief on the lyrics for the sake of that sound. If they wanted to replace it with Dead Man, I'd say "sure," but anything else I'd say 'no' to. Insturmentally, those two songs really master the blend of high fidelity shimmer and low-fi mud that makes the record great.

And this is what pisses me off about I'm Open. Everything you say is true, it's just man, those lyrics are awful.

Of all times for Ed to bother with enunciation

I'm Open could have been a cool instrumental track that ran throughout the album in interludes... or as an instrumental hidden track
