i used to adore Wishlist..it was so different from what they did at the time, and eddie´s mumble voice along with those guitars made it perfect.
Listened so many many times, nowadays i just dont need to look for it like before, but i really appreciate when its played live.

Over the years, I have seen a lot of fans get mad at this band for things I thought were silly, like playing corporate events or the whole selling their soul - which I think is only silly because the bands music to me defines them more than an undefined set of ethos they may have espoused at a different time in their career.

But the fact that they have held back from releasing their catalogue on vinyl has bothered me quite a bit. For many years, including recent ones, we've heard Eddie Vedder tout the values of actual records as the preferred vehicle for actually listening - and instead of making their music available on this platform like everyone else is doing right now, they've held back to the point where fans are practically fetishizing over it. To me, this is the anti-Pearl Jam because it results more in fans keeping whatever record they found bound to the shrink wrap and maximizing its collectible value rather than what it should be intended for - a superb listening experience.

If they re-released the catalog on vinyl it would just be pressings of the CD master and sound more or less exactly the same.

I would think the smart business move on their part would be to re-release it on vinyl - one version the standard LP from the CD master priced at $14.99 or less and one version the 180 Gram master recording for $24.99 or whatever the going rate is right now on these releases. For a band that released nearly every show they played from 2000 through the present so fans wouldn't spend $50 on a questionable quality bootleg to ignore the fact that people are spending hundreds of dollars for a standard LP of No Code, Yield, Binaural, Riot Act, Pearl Jam, Live on Two Legs, Live on Ten Legs, Benaroya Hall, Lost Dogs, etc. just seems ridiculous to me. I won't say that they necessarily owe it to fans, but I will say for a band as outspoken about this format as they are to turn their backs on it once it has regained a foot hold in the market is disappointing.

EDIT: Just to add to this point, it has been sad that they've been really hesitant to participate in record store days and their releases, if any, have been nothing to really get excited about.

You make an interesting point. I don't think many bands have had releases in constant pressing but I'd suggest that PJ management have simply held off so they can stagger the releases/reissues for marketing purposes.

The last thing i want is a Vinyl mastered from a CD, especially if it was originally put to tape in the recording process. I do agree with your statements about the lack of vinyl, especially from this band. It just doesn't make much sense. Eddie tells me to 'Spin the Black Circle', Can't find the things at an affordable price to do so.

Avocado on vinyl sounds SO WARM

It's not even that Spin the Black Circle was a single and whatnot, but that Vedder constantly romanticizes about it from the stage - you would think that if they felt music was best experienced on vinyl and that CDs/mp3s/"credit cards" were an inferior experience that they would have their music available to be experienced in the preferred platform. While I would have expected them to trump the cause in general, not even having more than half of their official releases available in that format to me is disappointing.

You'd think so. And it goes beyond that. You'd think they'd also care enough to make the vinyl in a way that actually sounds better than the cd. They don't do that.

I believe you but how was this determined? Also, were any of the original vinyl pressings superior to cd? Or have they always done this?

The only ones I can listen to are the reissue and yea - I never thought to myself "wow, vinyl!"

Yeah I remember that. One of those moments that made me stop hoping for cool sounding shit from this band. The best we'll ever get from an audiophile standpoint is letting Brett Elliason mix the bootlegs and release them in 24bit FLAC. Hopefully that'll happen for some pre-2k boots at some point.
