They got rid of the two-line pass in what, 2005?

as torture said...that two line pass has been gone a while now

no icing would be stupid. there would be so many injuries it wouldnt even be funny

I actually loved the icing rules they put in after the Lost Season as well (both the timing issue and the no subs). If we had a 'Great Rules In Sports' thread, I would post about that there. Not crazy about hybrid icing.

just going by when i played deck hockey...summer, spring and fall we had regular icing. id say every 5th time two guys collided in the boards and one got hurt. winter time it was automatic due to ice and snow. i cant imagine how hard it hurts and the injuries you get from skating at a much faster pace than we were capable of running

Seriously, how the hell does waiting 10 seconds make the game safer? I have little sympathy here--against a no-huddle offense you should either get stuck playing your same 11, or be forced to use a timeout or incur a penalty. I bet Chip Kelly's even more glad that he's in the NFL now.

Well, reading a little more into it, seems like it's a Nick Saban rule.

Not really a rule per se, but the flow of NCAA basketball with TV timeouts.

Example: A coach calls a timeout right around the 16, 12, 8, or 4 minute mark. Goes to commercial break. Comes back for live action until the next dead ball (usually 5-20 seconds), then goes back to commercial for the TV timeout. Can't we just use the coach's timeout as the TV timeout and have ads for twice as long?

There are way too many coaches' timeouts in college basketball to begin with.

Absolutely. There is a possibility for 20 TV/Coach Timeouts in each game. That is absurd.

The soon to be 15 yard penalty for using the N word in the NFL... even though some use it as a term of endearment towards each other... not just because it will be virtually impossible to tell who said what to whom and when, but because Roger Goodell recently stated the Washington Football teams nickname is not racist, as some Native Americans use it as a term of endearment towards each other...

So if im reading that right NFL, you want to be a positive role model for black kids, and show there is no place for the N Word in your game...

but the fan base of the Washington Football teams complaint of having to buy new merchandise if the team is forced to switch names, is greater, than that of the insulted Native Americans by the racist R word that is all over your game.

No dunking in warmups? Really? This strikes me like a "pull up your pants, wear your hat straight" stupid rule.

No line changes on an icing was a great idea. The rule I think fits in this thread is the puck-over-the-glass rule. If you're hemmed in your own zone, it's OK to fire it down the ice, you just don't get a break. But accidentally chip it a few inches too high when you're trying to put it off the glass? Penalty! I remember a couple years ago someone (I'm thinking Matt Cooke, for some reason, but that's probably wrong) slapped it out of his zone in the dying seconds of the period and it sailed into the mesh at the opposite end. He got a penalty for delay of game.

The penalties should be the same, and they should both simply be no line change.

Edit: not the dying seconds of a period, but it was Matt Cooke... he was firing it down the ice because they were already killing a penalty.

Hm, that's not a bad idea. Also maybe bring the faceoff back into your zone if it happens in the neutral zone? I guess the only argument against what you're saying would compare it to high-sticking: even if you don't mean to hit a guy in the face, you should be careful with your stick.

That's a fair point, but my main complaint is that icing and puck-over-the-glass are similar plays: they're both ways of relieving pressure and stopping play to get a break. Actually, I would suggest that icing is probably more intentional than putting the puck over the glass, yet the penalties are different.

Basically, I think the result of icing the puck and putting it over the glass in the defensive zone should be the same, and it would be stupid to hand out penalties for icing, so I think there should be no penalties and both should result in no line-change for the offending team.

The only downside to dunking is that sometimes the goal post can get crooked and that can affect the kicking game. But even that's a stretch. Stupid rule.

Jimmy Graham bent the goal post last year which led to a timely delay. Any celebration that leads to delay of the game should be a penalty.

Sure, that's fine. But 99% of goal post dunks don't do that.

On another note, now I'm really sad that Brandon Stokley disarmed what would have been an awesome celebration: Eric Decker alley-ooping a goalpost dunk to Demaryius Thomas. That one would have so been worth a 15 yard penalty on the kickoff, especially with Prater's leg.

No more collisions at the plate rule in baseball. Cather can't block, runner can't run into him- u gotta slide now.

Terrible rule change.

Has there already been a rule against collisions at the bases? I never see collisions there. If so, might as well make it consistent.
