The Santa Clause wasn't bad, though.

Rank the sucky Christmas comedies from worst to best.
Well, these are the three I recently watched:

3. Surviving Christmas
2. Christmas with the Kranks
1. Christmas Vacation

:shake:
I haven't seen the first two but Christmas Vacation is pretty great.

Not great great. There are plenty of better movies. But it's funny and memorable and has tremendous replay value. I don't know. Maybe I don't demand much from National Lampoon.

It definitely has its moments. Randy Quaid is fan-fucking-tastic in it, but I always love him. But, overall, I think it's a very shoddy movie. Not terrible, but definitely not good.

Yeah, I get that. I totally see what you mean. "Great" is hyperbole. It's not a great movie. But it's fun to watch, it makes me laugh, and I look forward to watching it around Christmas time every year. But that doesn't equate to "great."

Are you guys seriously breaking down the quality of Christmas comedies? Man, I thought I was in rough shape...

Have you guys actually seen Christmas with the Kranks? It might legitimately be the most insane, bizarre, inexplicable movie I've ever seen. I can't figure out the motivations of anyone in that thing. It's pure madness. It's as if it's set on an alien planet or something.

Pretty good John Grisham adaptation though.

In no particular order, here are some Christmas Comedies that I adore and think are at least fun to great:

Christmas Vacation
Elf
Scrooged
Love Actually
Bad Santa
A Christmas Story
Home Alone
Home Alone 2
The Family Stone
The Holiday
Mixed Nuts
Ernest Saves Christmas
Four Christmases
The Muppet Christmas Carol

Also Gremlins and The Nightmare Before Christmas, if those count as comedies.
