You made it for me last year, I believe, and I listened to it often (and PM'd you about it I think?)

Dude Incredible, Terraform, and 1000 Hurts are all heavy rotation at this point.

That sounds likely. This time last year was a pretty intense fugazi phase. I didn't mean for that PM to suggest that I wasn't into shellac. Sorry if I gave you the impression or made you feel like I didn't enjoy your mix. It definitely made a fan out of me.

Shellac's music is off Spotify now. It would be kind of funny if this person inadvertently reminded Albini to get Big Black off Spotify too.

Funny Story, Steve Albini used to love to come a bar on Long Island where I lived in the early 2000's whenever he came into NY. It was called Effingroovin, one night he was there at the bar alone and I was there too, I think I got stood up on date or something, ended up talking with him, pretty cool guy. Even discussed what it was like recording In Utero, once thing that stuck out that he said that night is he didn't think anyone but Kurt liked the Original Mixes when they were done.

often think albini & his peers frequently traverse the natural bridge between the contrarian & the reactionary

The fact that Steve is on twitter is still kinda mindblowing, but he annoys me on there. His reply guys are the worst...

Big fan, always will be. But I dunno, the older I get the the more I'm like meh.

Last time I saw Shellac in '18 or so, I really didn't have a good time. Maybe I was too stoned, but seeing a crowd of paunchy Gen X humps singing along to Prayer to God really killed my buzz. They were so good up until that point too, just fucking chugging, it was great. But that one moment really soured everything for me.

God, must of been '10 or so I saw a fight break out after their set. Fight would be a generous word though. Two denim jacket clad, pin laden dorks started pushing each other and maybe ended up on the floor. I was close to it and just laughed and walked away. I don't think they even threw a proper punch.

Nowadays, if I were to go see them it would be to see friends at the show.

"Yeah we still do Prayer to God but it's okay cause we have a woman open for us"

Get the fuck outta here.

Man, that would take me out too. Reminds me of the time I saw Todd Snider. The friend I was with knew all the words to the "improv" bits of intro banter for a few of the songs. Crowd energy is a wonderful thing, but too much crowd participation starts to feel like you're part of a zealous congregation. I can only imagine what that's like during a song like PTG.

"Her - she can go quietly, by disease or a blow
To the base of her neck
Where her necklaces close
Where her garments come together
Where I used to lay my face...
That's where you oughta kill her
In that particular place"

"Make him cry like a woman
No particular woman"

Cuck anthem.
