It's so infectious. Even at eight and a half minutes long, I kinda want it to keep going.

As a nod to this thread and the posters therein, I snuck a Stevie Wonder song in the background of this podcast I'm editing right now.

I keep going 'Shit, Stevie Wonder wrote that? I love that song!' Now having that feeling with 'For Once In My Life.'

Yeah. He does have writing credits on like 2/3 of the record though, which was pretty much unheard of at that time for someone on Motown (not to mention someone who was 18 years old).

It's crazy to think he had to fight tooth and nail and use his new found legal status as an adult to void his contract and get full artistic control, and then responded with Where I'm Coming From, Music of My Mind, Talking Book, Innervisions, Fulfillingess' First Finale, and Songs in the Key of Life in the five years that followed.

EIGHTEEN. That is amazing. It is a very enjoyable album so far.

While the sixties stuff isn't transcendent like the seventies' stuff (though there definitely are certain songs that are), they're all still very enjoyable listens. His performances are pretty great.

There's just something about the Motown sound / aura that his 60s stuff is essential even without the uniqueness that typifies the 70s stuff.

Very few things in the universe are as magical as the Motown sound.
