Secret Mixtape Review: Mix #16 (10-31) is up!

Track 3: builds like this need a payoff. hmmm, this wasn't where I thought this was going. Interesting. Reminds me of T-rex a little bit. I liked this one.

track 4: this was good. I am not going to be able to add to Kaius' description. I get a little arcade fire, too. A band I might actually want to learn a little more about. Probably my favorite song from either mix so far. I really like how it quickens at the 2 minute mark.

skipping track 5. It sounds worse this time following a strong track 4.

track 6: I've heard 5 seconds of this song and I'm pretty confident this is going to suck.

40 seconds in, and I was being charitable.


each ten seconds of this song feels like a lifetime. This is fucking terrible.

this song reminds me of a bad king missile song. But good king missile songs are pretty funny. This sucks.

This does seem like the kind of song that the person who likes track 6 will find really brilliant.

I really hope the mixmaker hates Backspacer. It will do wonders for my credibility

track 9: I'm a bit torn. The singer has a cool voice, and there's a lot of energy in this song, but it feels a little contrived--it's hitting so many genre notes it almost seems like a parody, except its not.


I didn't like this one, but I'll chalk this one up to my own issues

Track 10: Another song with a fairly strong 80s vibe to it, but in a good way. Nice singer. The song's a little clunky at times, but the chorus is nice, and there's definitely some beauty in this one.

Track 11: even better on this second listen. Again, not something that would normally be my thing, but I'm drawn to this one.

track 12: Is this Jenny Lewis. It sounds like her, and her kind of storytelling--she's got a sad sexy voice (the voice is great), and she's hot as hell (assuming this is her), and so you don't notice that the songs aren't very good. Whoever this is should get someone else to write their songs.

track 13: Another nice voice, but the slur feels affected. The lazy heartbreak won me over in the end.

Track 1: I like the gentle mystery in the opening music, the transition into the vocals is a bit much. The music suits the singer. Not bad

Not finding the transition a bit much at all. Fantastic track.

Track 2 was pretty stupid, really digging track 3 though. My favorite so far.

definitely hear the arcade fire comparisons in track 4, with some britpop thrown into the vocals

Track 14: Pretty good. Not my thing, but an easy song to get lost in. not sure it needs to be 20 minutes, but what can you do.

there was some really nice stuff in the mix. 3, 4, 10, 11, and 13 were probably the highlights. Tracks 6-8 were just awful though.

Track 4: I really like how they echo his voice off of the guitar, or vice versa. It gives some otherwise somber vocals a bouncy, playful edge.
