So good to see Raylan Givens again.
I wish his supporting cast (mainly his assigned partner and his real-life daughter) weren’t such uninteresting cliches. Tim, Rachel, and especially Art are missed.
The hugest missing piece was always going to be Goggins, and comparing a complex 6 season character to one who is written for 8 episodes is pointless. I do like the bad guy, though. This guy is unhinged. He’s like Choo-choo with a brain. There will be a Dirty Harry Callahan style ending. His girl looks a lot like Kirsten Dunst sometimes. With better teeth.
I saw a critic called it “always enjoyable, never outstanding.” That feels right so far. This is no different from any cop show in syndication. Except this one has Raylan Givens.

Yes. First episode was fine. I think it will suffer a little from no Boyd, but Olyphant can carry it. He is outstanding.
