And the second. And the third. And a good chunk of the fourth. Yes, The Clash was a punk band through and through. It's silly to say they weren't because they were eclectic or tight. A lot of punk music is.
Eh, different strokes. I think slapping is a label like punk on a band whose range was so broad is somewhat limiting.
I definitely understand what you mean and to some point I agree, but I think Joe Strummer understood that 'punk' was less about a specific musical style and more about a spirit, a general aesthetic and an approach to those genres, which is why he was still calling himself a "punk rock warlord" when he was recording 17-minute Celtic ballads. For the most part I think debates about what is "punk" are tiresome as hell, but The Clash are such a huge, iconic and influential part of that particular wave of punk bands that I bristle at the idea of disassociating them with that label on account of their eclecticism (not to mention that a huge part of their music actually does fall within the strict definition of "punk rock" as a music genre).

to hopefully speed this up the number 1 and 16 players (so Bada and Kopee) will have time and a half for their two picks, instead of double (so 9 hours instead of 12)

I kept wondering why Layla was not getting drafted in the 60s tournament. I forgot that it was the 70s until the very end
Seconded. This contest is already far more interesting than the 60s.

same here. I was just going to grab that particular song if it was still there 30 picks in.

so are we allowed to pick songs written by other people way before the 70s then? just curious because I had a couple written earlier but made much more popular in the 70s
need an official ruling on this

I'd say that if an artist released it in the 70's it counts, cover or no.
