I disagree completely

I was referring more to our disagreement about its quality.theplatypus wrote:I disagree completely

I DISAGREE WITH THAT TOO.

It may just be the best song on the album. It's not the best performance though.

I'm not sure "Swallowed Whole" actually exists

It's weird how much we agree on Pearl Jam.LoathedVermin72 wrote:I'm not sure "Swallowed Whole" actually exists

On last listen I'd say Swallowed Whole is the best track on the album.
Getaway is the performance of the album, the last minute or so has great energy.
The verses of Infallible are the most interesting.

Getaway, My Father's Son, and Sleeping by Myself are the only songs I find memorably good.

"Swallowed Whole" is one of two-and-half songs worth listening to in LB. Everything else ranges from mediocre ("Getaway", "Lightning Bolt") to irredeemable garbage ("Infallible", "Future Days")

I still have no idea how to feel about Swallowed Whole, sometimes I enjoy it, sometimes I find it terrible, that alone might make it more interesting than most of the album for me though.

The first 4 tracks are amazing, the energy of Getaway, MYM and FS are remarkable, and Sirens is classic pj....then its just ok, flawed songs that could have been great until Pendulum, which i adore.
Sleeping By Myself and Yellow Moon are also high points.

Overall it sounds tired
MYM sounds forced and has a bad mix. The band sounds like they just woke up
The Goo Goo Dolls detour on Sirens (yikes!) and and that cringe worthy solo (I love Ed's voice/melody on this song though)
Not enough Stone songs
Relying too much on the same linear Pearl Jam formula
Audio flub on Swallowed Whole at 1:13-1:14 and the recycling of the Habit riff on the outtro
Ed ruined another great Stone tune (Bushleaguer would be the other one) with dumb lyrics about a record
The sound on Sleeping By Myself sounds extra Christmassy
BOB piano playing
Fast, unnatural volume drop on Pendulum at 1:00 -1:01
Overall sappiness of Future Days
"Can I get a reprieve?" and the "Cannot forget your hiding..." parts on My Father's Son--it kills the song for me
The too-kid friendly artwork
The index finger looking thing on the album cover

The bridge to Yellow Mooon is top notch. Stuff like that gives me hope. They were always great at delivering a solid bridge.
