Re: Movie: Mad Max - Fury Road
The best action movie I've seen in years... maybe decades.

I'm all confused. Is it good or bad? I want to see it so I guess I'll just hope for the best.

Well, first of all, let me say that I love Tom Hardy. I think he's one of the greatest living actors. That said, I think he's an actor that needs the right role and the right director to push him into the right performance. He's a great actor, not a star.lennytheweedwhacker wrote:lv, i think it was you that said tom hardy was wrong for the role...if so, care to elaborate on that?
This movie made me realize that Max really isn't much of a character, and whatever worked about him in the first three films was almost all due to Mel Gibson's star power. Gibson can't help but be charismatic and have presence. He breathed life into Max. But without him, Max becomes very uninteresting. He basically comes off like a grunting oaf during most of this movie. Not exactly a compelling protagonist.

Exactly. I dont like that he seems to be sick or something the entire movie. Gibson would have owned this movie...in fact it would have been awesome to see a grown and fucked mad max.

you don't have to see the previous three. Actually, they are all mostly stand alone stories.verb_to_trust wrote:Can I watch this without knowing anything about the previous three movies? Im hearing good things...

Gibson's character is basically The Man With No Name in the future. Can't go wrong with that.VinylGuy wrote:Exactly. I dont like that he seems to be sick or something the entire movie. Gibson would have owned this movie...in fact it would have been awesome to see a grown and fucked mad max.
I liked Hardy's nuttier take though. Plus, look how damn sexy the man is! mama mia!

I kind of agree that Hardy is not perfect as the lead, but I don't really find it to be super relevant. What are the chances of future sequels btw?

It made respectable money this weekend. I wouldn't be surprised to see at least one of those additional sequels in three years or so.
