Re: Lets Actually Listen to the Album: Ten
I had Ten originally taped onto a 90 min cassette, with the other side Vs. - I didn’t own the album before Vs. came out. So with 45 mins per side, Release was cut off, and it was years before I properly heard Master/Slave. Maybe it took that much longer for me to fully get Release since the album ended for me with Releeease m—“.

This is a very chill start to an album compared to Vs. The songs are big but also kind of relaxed

Having heard mostly live versions recently, I kind of forgot how groovy and easy going Even Flow actually is

I don't get any big emotions from the songs this listen but I am groovin' quite a bit here. Very groovy

Loving how spacey everything is. There's so much room between every instrument

Why Go is one of the angrier tracks on here but it's still not THAT aggressive.

They managed to even make a ballad like Black kind of groovy

Re: Lets Actually Listen to the Album: Ten
I understand how one could be disappointed in albums after Ten if this is the Pearl Jam you fell in love with. Nothing in their catalog sounds remotely similar to Ten

Depending on my mood I think the one-two punch of Black and Jeremy is either affecting or slightly goofy.

Re: Lets Actually Listen to the Album: Ten
Ocean is the first song that shows how varied Pearl Jam will become later on
Porch is the song with the most energy on this thing. Interesting that this is the first Eddie song of Pearl Jam chronologically. You can see that he is slightly more influenced by punk rock than Stone and Jeff in the first song already. Not that Porch is punk, but it's the fastest thing on here. The signs were here already!!!!
Porch is my favorite song on this listen so far.

Deep and Garden are the only songs that I would describe as "heavy" on here. I'm not the biggest fan of either and they make the end of the album kind of sluggish.

Re: Lets Actually Listen to the Album: Ten
That was an interesting listen. I haven't listened to Ten in full in a long time. I enjoyed it quite a bit but also know why I don't listen to it very often. It's just not really my style of music.
It's way more mellow and relaxed than I remember it being.
Spontaneous ranking tiers:
Release
Porch
--------
Alive
Even Flow
Oceans
-------
Black
Once
Why Go
Jeremy
-------
Deep
Garden

Porch is my number two on Ten also. I don’t know about describing ten as relaxed or mellow but I think I know what you mean. It’s a very ‘open’ record
