And (not that I want to bring this whole thing up again) the words are so clunky. I'm not saying they are especially bad lyrics, but I don't like the way they ride the song. Ed's vocals don't work as well here. Again, I don't hate GSMF, but it's never done much for me. I could take it or leave it.

What I love about this quote pyramid is that we get to piss of Harry Lime AND creep out Jorge all at the same time!

Fuck Brendan why did you record those weak guitars in ATW?? Why are so drown in the mix?? This was a really good guitar song and the mixed ruined this putting Ed so upfront.

I feel as if it works to kind of satirise the moroseness of grunge songs. "I'm gonna see my friends to make it go away", "I'm sick of everything", and all this hardcore shit, but the story is so mundane it's funny. He's going to hang out with his buddies because he'd down and they'll make him feel better.

The intro to MYM is misleading too.
re: GSMF...I'm with d,t. I can take or leave it. I absolutely hate the way Ed sings "Va-ctums of desire"

But there's no real bite to it. So, to me, it isn't effective satire. Like you said, it unplugs itself and turns its own lights off.

Big guitar rock song was not its intent. It's more about the groove. It's done right. When people finally wake up and realise it's not a stadium rock anthem, they might like it. Lack of guitars just changes the feel of the song, doesn't make it worse per se.

That's a fair criticism. If these guitars were chunkier (like AIC chunky) it might've worked better.

But, the band lost it's groove once Jack left.

Im not saying it was a big stadium rock anthem, but this is clearly a guitar song. What Mike and Stone are doing should be more upfront than the piano or maybe eddie´s vocals.
Remember Hail, Hail Brendan?

You mean Dave A. But regardless, I don't find either of these a blanket criticism anymore. Matt can be groovy if (he thinks) the music calls for it. And he's groovy here. He's the grooviest he's been for a while.

There are more groovy pushes, accents and fills in ATW than in most recent Matt stuff. And the off-beat reggae hi-hat in the choruses really works.

You dont feel the need to hear more loud the guitars? Im with you in terms of groove and Matt, but this a Stone song and him and Mike feel they only appear at the end.
