I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

I do think Rayder is more likely to effectuate a successful boar hunt.
Mance was known for his one-on-one fighting ability; its pretty much how he gained the respect of all of the wildling tribes
well if we're going with how they are in the books that would certainly encourage me to change my vote

Robert
See I'm going prime condition during the events of ASOIAF.

That's totally reasonable. I'd like a ruling from Kaius on what he envisioned so we can be consistent.

but you know, Robert swung a warhammer like it was a baseball bat, a warhammer that notably strong Ned Stark had trouble carrying

I am just enjoying the discussion and think everyone should use any source-based reasonable justifications for who they think would win, but if my opinion would help clarify things for you I'll give it.

I picture each warrior at full health and brimming with confidence, and as they were before suffering any debilitating injuries. Each using their weapon of choice, with a choice of armor or shield if it is logical that they would use it based on what we know. There are no horses or warg animals.

Having said that, I am not opposed to choosing based off of information acquired only from watching the HBO series, playing a video game, or reading supplemental information from valid sources.

I realize that leaves the door open for different outcomes depending how you rate a character, but I think limiting opinions due to evolving character arcs takes a bit of the fun out of it.

I think this battle is a tough call regardless due to Robert's strength with the war hammer. One landed blow is all it takes to end the fight.

Then I think about how Mance tossed in with wildlings, wargs, tough Northern clans like the Thenns, and even giants and became king-beyond-the-wall the hard way.

He pretty much tooled Jon in the sparring yard, though he was glamoured.

Yeah and king Robert is fat and it of shape. Can't even fit his armor.

My vote is for Mance as I think his speed and power are underrated considering who he has no doubt had to beat in his rise to the top of the wildlings and will not be surprised by Robert's strength or power considering he has probably tossed in with equally powerful men not to mention giants.
