I think rock n' roll, in terms of the music itself, has nothing to do with rebellious social uprising or whatever.Tuolumne wrote:That's right fuckers. Especially when it comes to hip hop - which truly carries on the rebellious legacy of social uprising of RnR moreso than the Journeys of the world (who are rock and roll only in name and more pop than anything else, so they deserved the long wait, as does Bon Jovi and many others whining about their cold shoulder).
Geez, where do I start?stip wrote:Looking at the list of artists in the RnR hall of fame there aren't a lot of artists that really don't deserve to be in it.
I don't even know where to start with this. The very FIRST class that was inducted included: Little Richard, Fats Domino, James Brown, Ray Charles, and Sam Cooke. All black dudes who did not play guitar. Chuck Berry was one of the other ones and he did play guitar. That was the FIRST fucking HOF class.Birds in Hell wrote:I think rock n' roll, in terms of the music itself, has nothing to do with rebellious social uprising or whatever.Tuolumne wrote:That's right fuckers. James Brown, Johnny Cash, Stevie Wonder, Bob Dylan, Simon & Garfunkel, Elton John, Joni Mitchell, Bruce Springsteen, etc.
Great artists, but they didn't, or don't, make rock music.
I'd throw out 80% of the inductees without hesitation.
And how do you have a thing like this without the Stooges? Fuckin' crazy.
they were inducted in 95, the same year Ed inducted Neil Youngrick malone wrote:Led Zeppelin hasn't been inducted yet?!? Crazy. Rolling Stone editors must be on the board of the Hall of Fame.
Yeah but with Neil Young? Zeppelin surely deserves their own ceremony separate from other artists.MattA75 wrote:they were inducted in 95, the same year Ed inducted Neil Youngrick malone wrote:Led Zeppelin hasn't been inducted yet?!? What? That is ridiculous. Then you are saying they are the greatest of all time, which is obviously not the case.rick malone wrote:Yeah but with Neil Young? Bob Dylan, Elton John, and Bruce Springsteen all very much make rock music. Other stuff too, perhaps, but I don't know how one classifies "Like a Rolling Stone" and "Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting" and "Born to Run"Birds in Hell wrote:I think rock n' roll, in terms of the music itself, has nothing to do with rebellious social uprising or whatever.Tuolumne wrote:That's right fuckers. Okay, well bracket how broad or narrow one's definition of Rock music is (leaving Bruce Springsteen off that list is self-evidently crazy to me, but not to you), you acknowledge that they're all great artists. So if you think of the RnR hall of fame as an institution that honors historically important and influential artists and inducts worthy people what's the problem?Birds in Hell wrote:I think rock n' roll, in terms of the music itself, has nothing to do with rebellious social uprising or whatever.Tuolumne wrote:That's right fuckers.
