I had thought about starting a thread where people can share their planning/prep/circumstances/challenges during quarantine. I was going to call it Life During Wartime, but I Told You So is pretty good too.

The sheer number of We Didn't Start the Fire jokes/memes on Twitter over the past 24 hours is impressive.

I had to read it twice to see what information it was actually trying to convey.

We had our PM announce the package of restrictions and measures earlier.

Just went to my local supermarket and it’s chaos.
Empty shelves. (Pizza freezer cabinets all empty except the ham n pineapple section lol )
If you haven’t gone and gotten some essentials and stock up a bit I’d do it now.

You guys have guns ffs.

It’s just about scale and scope, guys.

Let me give you a for instance: our electronic prescription system and medication history database retrieval system both went down this morning due to query volume, meaning we have to go back to hand written prescriptions and rely on patients remembering their medication history. Normally an inconvenience but hardly a big deal.

Right now, though, healthcare organizations in Seattle are ramping up Telehealth services because we simply cannot allow everyone who is sick to go to a clinic or a hospital (in fact we are closing many clinics to transform them into coronavirus response services). Telehealth working properly and being capable of handling large volumes requires electronic prescribing, but electronic prescribing systems aren’t really built to handle this kind of workload, and it’s pretty hard to just “fix” that after the fact.

It’s less a case of “nobody knows what’s going to happen in my kitchen“ and more a case of “nobody is sure where the bombs are hidden in my kitchen.” A lot of systems, functions, and processes are going to be tested that we don’t actually know are up to the job.
