I 100% prefer how they sound on stuff like Never Destination and Running to how they sound on any post-2002 slow ballad (some exceptions on Gigaton).

This type of song is never seem to go down well with anybody except me though, so I can’t figure that they have any reason to keep writing them… except that it is perhaps a type of song that at least one and probably more of them really enjoys making.

I was thinking of "so she can fuck off" and the algorithm asked me "is it about Ed's stalker?

What if no one answers and your question is left unanswered for eternity?

Guys, I had a thought but couldn’t be bothered to validate it because the answer doesn’t matter. You should follow up on that for me.

Well,

Getaway is:

A C

A C

A D

C G

In the verse

Pre chorus is

F A G

Chorus is

A C F Em

Running verse is Bm to E x 2 then D to G x2

So, I don’t think so.

I mean not extremely dissimilar but that’s music. So many songs have a very similar progression simply re arranged a tad with diff time signs and strumming patterns, etc.

I’ll just ask StratGPT
It is not.

This helps. A-C in Getaway is a I-III movement so that’s different, but then it’s all I-IV after that, as is Running. So that’s what I’m hearing. Thanks!

For what it’s worth I think running is better than getaway. I’ll work on the bridge tonight if our 3 week old decides to cooperate a bit haha

You have kids, yeah? Imagine a world where I take out my guitar and focus on this for five minutes
This is why I get up at 4:30. So I can have a few hours of my own thoughts.

I think you’re basically right though, in terms of the effect. Two chord back-and-forth with the second chord higher than the first, and then a jump up before a resolution at the end.

That's an interesting comparison (though I'm not sure it does Running many favors, that's one of Accelerate's best songs). Horse to Water feels more frenetic, and more feels at stake, but there are a lot of connection points.

I love ed’ lyrics , even in goofy fun mode but I still think he works best when he takes time to do them.
If stone says something like “Eddie went and came back with these in 20 minutes “I think it shows.

But most of my favorite lyrics from him are from Gigaton; which seemingly took them a lot of time and effort.
